THE LAST MATCH

I think we all feared that we would be coming into the game against the Trees with our tails firmly between our legs after another hammering at Man City, but the team put in a valiant performance only losing to an injury time goal!!  SG played the strongest team he could and it paid off!!!!  We also saw our prolific striker grab his second goal in two games, who said we need another striker in the January window!! Whistle

THE MATCH - SAT 10TH JAN 2015 KO 1500 GMT

So there is now no reason why we should not be able to keep the form up and no excuse for another losing streak like we saw after our last cup exit!!  Our first league game of the year sees us make the short trip down the M1 to struggling Forest.  Make no mistake this is a winnable game for us and we could even be the ones who put the final nail in the coffin of an opposing manager's job, that will make a change for us as we usually are the first team a new manager gets to play!!! Angry  We find ourselves currently one place and three points above them in the league and I would bet that if we knew that would be the case at the halfway stage of the season we would all have jumped at it, but unfortunately it sees us mid-table along with them!!

Our overall record against Forest is W55 D27 L53 but you have to go back 9 games to 2008 for our last win, and even further back to 2001 for our last win at the City Ground!!!Sick  Going back in history to a time when Thurnscoe wasn't even swimming around in his fathers ball sack  Laugh Forest have always had a place in my heart for one of my favorite Wednesday games of all time.  I started watching Wednesday when they were in the old 2nd Division in the mid 70s, followed by the drop into the 3rd and then the revival under Big Jack and Wilko.  One of my dreams back then was to see Wednesday in the 1st Division and we finally achieved that in the 1984-85 season and the first game of the season saw us play Forest at home.  In front of nearly 32,000 on a bright sunny day we put in a great performance winning 3-1 with Mel Sterland, Imre Varadi and John Pearson scoring the goals.  Check out the video below, I know its a long one at 20 minutes but its worth watching especially for the Varadi goal at 13 mins in the video!!!!

WHO'S THE BASTARD IN THE BLACK

EDIT - Thanks to Thurnscoe for telling me who the ref is, its Andy "Flucking" D'Ursso apparently!!  I'm sure MS will let us know what that means for us in terms of his previous performances!!.

CURRENT FORM

OWLS  -     Big GrinBig GrinAngryAngryBig GrinBig Grin
FOREST   -    AngryUndecidedUndecidedUndecidedAngryAngry

So as we can see they have not won in 6 games and Pearce is under increasing pressure to get back into the playoff picture.

OTHER GAMES OF MILD INTEREST

Ipswich v Derby
Bolton v Leeds
Bournemouth v Norwich
Brentford v Rotherham
Huddersfield v Watford

THE TEAM

So as we stand today changes will have to be made to the team that beat Wigan last time out in the league.  Drenthe and McGugan have gone back to their clubs after their loan spells ended and maybe Mattock is still injured.  I see no other formation other than 442  Angry  so I expect we will see:

Westwood
Palmer Lees Loovens Dielna (or Mattock)
Maguire Semedo Lee Helan
Nuhiu May

Of course this game sees us up against Antonio as well.

Nice OP SCO. Thumb up

Even a bit raunchy. Not by imre's standards, but then you'd have to delve into the XXX porn sites to keep pace with him. Laugh

I'm going 1-0 May

Nice one SCO Thumb up

I'm late with the meggy as I've been busy having a gutful of shit American beer trying to enlighten the yanks as to what a real sport entails.

Right, 3-1 Maghoma

I see SG has been praising Maghoma, which for me is only a half truth!! He seems to be a player who can have a good half and a bad half on a consistent basis. I have seen it mentioned on here that he was always a CM not a winger and lately he has performed best when he sits behind the strikers. Is he the guy who could possibly give proper service to May??

I would prefer to see him in the team in place of Maguire and possibly see us go for a 4312 formation where Lee, Semedo and Helan play midfield with Mags behind Nuhiu and May. Is SG anywhere near brave enough to try this for a few games?? Will he once again stick non-wingers out on the wing in a rigid 442??

Our Match Official for Saturday is Andy D'Urso, who hold the world record for 100m running backwards although some say it was an unfair advantage for him to have had Roy Keane running at him as an incentive.

Our Record:

Nov 14 - Charlton 1-1 Wednesday - No Cards
Mar 14 - Wednesday 1-0 Middlesbrough - 5Y 1R - as I recall this was an important match for us
Nov 12 - Wednesday 0-2 Blackpool - 2Y
Feb 12 - Wednesday 0-3 Blackpool - 2Y - FA Cup
Nov 11 - Wednesday 0-0 Brentford - 4Y
May 11 - Wednesday 1-2 Exeter - 3Y
Nov 09 - Ipswich 0-0 Wednesday - 3Y
Aug 09 - Peterboro 1-1 Wednesday - 1Y
Apl 09 - Bristol C 1-1 Wednesday - 1Y
Feb 09 - Burnley 2-4 Wednesday - 2Y - great win, the day Leon Clarke was unplayable
Sept 08 - Wednesday 1-0 Forest - No Cards - maybe this is a good omen
Mar 08 - Wednesday 0-1 West Brom - 3Y 1R - sent off JJ but controversially played 7 minutes injury time when Phillips scored
Nov 07 - Plymouth 1-2 Wednesday - 3Y
Jan 07 - Wednesday 2-4 Sunderland - 2Y
Mar 06 - Wednesday 1-1 QPR - 2Y
Jan 06 - Wednesday 3-0 Crewe - 2Y
Nov 02 - Wednesday 1-3 Derby - 5Y
Jan 02 - Wednesday 1-2 Blackburn - 3Y - League Cup
Mar 00 - Middlesbrough 1-0 Wednesday - 2Y
Dec 99 - Chelsea 3-0 Wednesday - 3Y
Aug 99 - Wednesday 1-2 Tottenham - 3Y

Overall Record P21 W5 D6 L10

Overall our record with this referee is poor but significantly he is likely to be the only man on the pitch who was there the last time Wednesday beat Forest so that could be a lucky omen. Whilst our record with him is poor, it is distorted by him taking charge of several matches that we were likely to lose anyway.

I do remember the West Brom match with some pain. Cannot argue with the JJ red card but he just kept playing until West Brom scored.

One other significant game for us that he refereed was United's 2-2 home draw with Stevenage, which put us in the box seat for promotion on the day we won at Brentford.

So while the name Andy D'Urso conjures up horrors, he is probably one of the safer referees to have.
