So we come to the end of a truncated season due to COVID and what a finish it was!! I was watching games on three screens and trying to keep up with the scores on here at the same time. I can tell you that the league positions in the real table and in our PL table changed multiple times right up to the final minutes of these games!!! Interestingly for the first time that I can remember every single player scored the extra point on the scoreball this week!
First place this week goes to AAA with 22 points, a highest score for the season for him! He scored on 7 games with 3 CSs and 4 CRs including the bonus ball. In second spot is relegation threatened St Charles with 16 points, which were gained with a very timely CS on the Bonus and a CR on the Gamball!!! Third place is Bomber on 12 points, I think we all know who is the new PL champion but I will let him confirm that in his own write up!!
Fourth place goes to BBB. another solid week for what has been a solid season for him. Sanjay rounds out the top 5 this week on 9 points to cap a mid-table finish in what has been a solid mid-table season for him. Joint 6th on 7 points is Themaclad and Beefy, fighting for things at opposite ends of the table I fear both of them may well have fallen short of the goals they had a the start of the day though!!
Derby comes in eighth this week on 5 points, he really sealed his stay in the PL last week so it looks like he was well and truly on the proverbial beach with this weeks predictions. In last place on 3 points is Zinman, he missed on both his balls and I think he will be wishing that he had been on the beach with Derby but I assume he was trying but just fell short!!
So all we have left now is for Bomber to publish the final table, we will crown a new Champion, relegate two players and move to a playoff to decide the final relegation/promotion spot on Saturday. As for me, I would like to thank all of you for accepting me into your fold for this prediction league and if you will still have me I look forward to starting it all again whenever the new season will begin!!
Cheers

32 weeks of predicting spread over about 12 months to find the winners & losers. Bomber had a 12 point lead over themaclad when we resumed following the easing of restrictions on 20th June, and after a bit of toing and froing it's the same dozen points that sees Bomber crowned as champion. It did get as close as 4 points with a couple of weeks to go but Bomber held his nerve and outscored themaclad in the run in to claim the title. Not bad for two of the promoted players from last year.
BBB never managed to get on terms with our top 2 but kept them on their toes to finish in 3rd spot some 20 odd points away from the top, while 4th was scooped by AAA on the last day, doing a Swansea and climbing 2 places with the last results of the season as he registered his top score of the season, in real life a champions league spot - in the Prediction league mid table and best of the rest.
Sanjay and Derby staved of any last minute worries of being dragged into the relegation play off spot and in the end just missed out on the 300 point mark for the season, finishing 5th and 6th respectively.
SCO left himself with just too much to do in the the final week and although he gave it a right royal go but ultimately fell 10 points short and must now put his Premiership place on the line in the shhot out with Snooty this weekend to try and preserve it for another season.
No such luck for our relegated duo though as they slipped through the trap door and will be playing Championship predicting next season, Zinman slipped into the bottom two with the last round of fixtures, while Beefy - try as he may - paid the ultimate price for 25 poor weeks and losing 57 points on the killer Gamball throughout the season. Look out Championship he's "coming down".
At this point its probably worth mentioning that the champion & runner up from last year are now being relegated the next - how the mighty have fallen. It probably also worth noting that as things stand 3 out of the 4 committee members could be plying their trade in the "lower" league next season. What of the 4th member ? I hear you ask - please read above

Aaand breathe. Finally the prediction league regular season comes to an end with its normal final week twists and turns. Some strange results and none stranger than seeing Stairs sitting on top of the final week's table with his second highest score of the season. Great ball play saw him score with all his balls including a maximum on the gamball. It won;t affect the final table but may make him confident of a better season next year. Second place, and continuing his phenomenal recent form is Snooty. Since Amelia has shown him how to play with his balls he has shot .....up the table but will his performance be good enough to get him into the play-offs or even the second automatic place? He will certainly be grateful for his good friends at Leeds giving him his bonus points.
Joker had an ok week to take 3rd place but a failure to get a single correct score plus losing on his bonus may well cost him. Similarly Amelia stuttered at the end of the season and be glad to finally cross the finish line - but will 6 points be enough?
Lady Jane confused the scorers with her balls but her 5 points won't affect the overall table and Twerton had a relatively poor week, not helped by trying to play 2 bonus balls but as he's out of sight at the head of the table, on the beach, pina colada (or pint of Bathams) in hand, for once I'll forgive him.
Unfortunately BaggieOne did a Brentford and crumbled under the pressure of the chase for promotion. Just a single point means he'll be staying in the Championship next year.
Thanks for everyone for sticking through this for what seems like for ever. It's been fun doing this and I hope the site gets to continue into the new season. I had expected this to be my final commentary of the year but I have a feeling I might have to do one last piece of scoring for the play-offs.

Over in the Championship, we've probably known that the title winner and also one of the automatic promotion spots was put to bed weeks ago as Twerton steamrollered the opposition into submission scoring a very impressive 376 points. He'd had an unassailable lead for much of the season being 50 points ahead around week 20, he kept his consistency and finished nearer the 60 point mark ahead of Amelia who kept her nerve and 2nd spot to confirm she'll be mixing it with the big boys next season.
I mentioned "doing a Swansea" on the Premiership write up, but Snooty should carry that mantle into the play offs as he came from 5th and up into 3rd with another decent score. Considering he was one off the bottom after week 28 its been a meteoric rise up the ranks, helped by a haul of 78 points over those last 4 weeks.
Missing out were Joker (missing nearly 60 fixtures) and BaggieOne who have been regular residents of 2nd and 3rd throughout the season but were both found wanting at the final hurdle to consign themselves to another Championship season when the next one gets underway.
Lady Jane finished off in 6th and will be looking to improve on her debut season when the next one rolls around in just a matter of weeks, while Stairs almost climbed a place with an excellent last week but had to settle for 7th & bottom of those completing the season. Mightybrom hasn't predicted since the resumption and falls to the foot of the table by default. Hope all's ok mate, we've missed you, and hope to see you back next season.
We'll do it all again soon - no doubt
Thanks to all the other committee members for their help & hard work. There's a lot of hours goes into all of this, week in week out, and I don't think we do too bad a job of it. If I do have a grumble it's that this thread usually struggles to generate half a dozen comments despite these efforts. Moan over
