In all the excitement of yesterday's match, I completely missed the report being published. And yes, for anyone else who was unaware of the facts of the case, this is utterly damning.

As for his defence… well, all I can say is that if he didn't know of the word's existence (as he claims) until after he said it, then he must be the world's unluckiest goalkeeper to have accidentally strung those two exact syllables together at random, *and* directed them against a person for whom they constitute one of the worst slurs in the language. And the fact that Spanish has equivalent insults like "negrata" and "negraco", which are equally unacceptable in Spain and not a million miles away from what he said, not to mention the blindingly obvious point that they get saturated with all the American films and music where that word is used... I mean, claiming ignorance is a whole new level of twonkery.
