For me it's time to go cap in hand to Tim Sherwood and say ok have it your way, bring in your own backroom team and show these players that if they want a career with the Baggies then they've got to damn well earn it.
The 3 mistakes against Man City all stemmed from complacency, they're earning huge wages and regardless of how they play, some of them are having AI and the rest of the coaching staff just throwing an arm around them and being picked time and time again. No wonder they all come out in support of AI, they've never had it so easy, except they have, for the last few years we've had the rumours of player power and I think it's still there. They're too comfortable, too cosy and too settled for me, Irvine has merely carried on from where others left off before him, with player friendly Downing, Kiely and co. The longer this goes on the less time anybody will have to change things in time to stave off the inevitable. Sherwood was the man in the summer and still is the man to come in and ruffle a few feathers and instill some desire which we've been lacking for 18 months now, no more experimenting, no more foreign names and no more spineless appointments.
If we sack Irvine, the club has to bring in someone that has experience working as a Head Coach because we won't rip up our set-up midway through the season. That process takes time and is best saved until the end of the season. Remember that it is not just changing the coaching set-up, it is letting other people go, bringing in new people, changing peoples jobs and their roles etc. It takes weeks to do, weeks that we don't have.
Someone experienced working as a Head Coach falls into 2 categories. A Hodgson type figure who will stay for 2 years and steady the ship or someone who can be at the club for 3+ years and build something. Experienced figure - Dick Advocaat. Someone to build - Martin Jol, Quique Flores, Marco van Basten (if his health is ok), Tim Sherwood. The above are some options. They all speak English and are all capable of doing a good job. I would like to see Sherwood come in. Flores was my first choice but he seems dead on to take over at Getafe in Spain. Sherwood is the tough character that our players could do with to kick them up the arse.

Sherwood as Bomber says - JP has to eat humble pie. In fact it's 'pig out' time, he needs to eat a whole pie not just a portion!

Bert van Marwijk is the guy that led the Dutch to the 2010 World Cup final. His last club job with Hamburger SV was a bit of a disaster but Hamburger SV as a club is also disaster right now. They wrongly sacked Thorsten Fink (a guy that I really rate) early into the 2013/2014 season and they have never recovered properly. They now have a novice in top level management in charge.
Talking of Hamburger SV, van Marwijk's replacement Mirko Slomka is also available. He was linked to us last January. My 10 cents about Pulis is that I don't want him at the club and I don't think he will come to the club. He may save and steady us but he left Palace because he wanted more power. He won't get that power here unless we change our system at the end of the season.

I think it is time to "rip up our set-up midway through the season" Josh, cos this isn't working, as it hasn't for the past 3 managers, and I feel that the problem has always been in the backroom boys not being good enough, who ought to be replaced. Many supporters have said this, and they stay and the manager is replaced !! Daft really.
When many of you were wisely saying after7/8 matches Irvine wasn't good enough, I said give him 20 games to prove himself, inc Bournemouth, well he's had 20 games, and I will bow my head to the cleverer of you and say yes Irvine has to go with Downing etc, and get in Sherwood as Bomber says with staff, and be prepared to pay extra for this as its hellish difficult to get back into the Prem. He or someone like him, will chop some of the squad, or gel them better, and after Berahino 20 million, get in better defenders cos the forwards hve talent, just need more directness that comes with NO anxiety to get us to mid table. That is my wish, the next 48 hours or after West Ham will tell us all the fate of our Albion this year. BBB ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

(This post was last modified: 28-12-2014, 20:17 by Ska'dForLife-WBA.)
As we head into 2015, here are the uncomfortable statistics from the last two years which need to be pinned to a wall in Jeremy's office, under a big painted sign which says "NEVER AGAIN":
Number of wins = 15 from 75 matches; a 20% ratio. Number of wins by more than a one-goal margin = 5 (I appreciate that all wins count, but the fact is, there have been very few times in the last two years you could legitimately say we've outclassed an opposing team rather than riding our luck). Number of times we've come from a losing position at half-time to win a match = 1 Number of times we've failed to win after leading by two goals or more = 6 These facts reflect so badly on everyone at this club, from top to bottom. If we were some financially-knackered sinking ship like Portsmouth or Bolton then I'd actually applaud the staff and players for keeping us in the division in the face of adversity, but for a supposedly stable and established side, this is desperately poor. I know we're always fighting an uphill battle against clubs with more financial muscle who've nicked our modus operandi (i.e. Southampton, West Ham), but we can and should be doing better than this. It's time to stop clinging to what worked briefly in 2012 and start innovating again, behind the scenes AND out on the pitch. I really want stability for the club - I really don't want us to be sacking gaffers every six months, or every time we hit a sticky patch - but true stability will never come with this constant cycle of mediocrity.
