I see GMac has called time in his career. What an absolute star and legend he has been for the Albion. Signed on a free from Ipswich and turned out to be quite magnificent, particularly in his partnership with big Jonas. I really hope the fans are able to give him a send off similar to those given to Jimmy Morrison and Jonas, he truly deserves one.

Thanks GMac, you were brilliant!

I remember the criticism that the club received when Hodgson signed McAuley on a free transfer from Ipswich in the summer of 2011. What a signing he actually turned out to be. A great servant and classy player who deserves a future at our great club, if he wants it.

Maybe he could become a defensive coach for us in the future?

Absolutely, Steve. We really took him for granted, but even aged 37 he was as good as any CH in the Prem.

GMac - a true 'legend', using a word that is so overused these days.
Somehow I think almost everyone took to him, probably because there was absolutely no ego with him; a real honest, 100% performer every time.
Immense. Old fashioned. Committed. Humble.
Great bloke, would love it if we COULD find a place for him at our club; one of my favourite players of this millennium Thumb up Thumb up

I agree Talksaft. Last year, would you have selected Bartley over Macaulay even with GMac being 36? Don't think I would, although I'm not sure how well Gareth would have coped with Graeme Jones' inspired "always play it out of the back" tactics...perhaps I'm being a bit unfair on Kyle.

Strange signing at the time, we courted him for ages! He went on and had a fantastic career with us and always enjoyed his performances, one of the better ones, wouldn't call him a legend, just a solid professional who I have massive respect for!

I think he was one of Hodgson's additions.

I agree a total solid professional, who I have good memories of. I would say I am glad he was on our side and not the oppositions.

My lasting memories will be how every year we talked about bringing someone in as he can't keep going forever. James Chester was a bit part player because of him, Craig Dawson was played at right back because of him, probably others as well but my memory's going. Plus the year he was vying to be our top scorer!

Thanks for the good times G Mac and if he ever wants to be a coach, he should be found a place, professional through and through. The type we should be using to instil the right qualities to the junior set up, there seem to be places available.

GMac was a fantastic servant for the club.
No disrespect, but I would put him more in the cult hero status then legend.
The days of "legends" has gone forever IMO, players now chase money and medals rather then loyalty.
2020 the year the bubble burst  Doh
