This league is so unpredictable I wouldn't be surprised if they announced Braintree as the winners.
I know about the Trevor Chappell incident as I watched a documentary about it a few months ago. There was no rule against him from doing it, it was bad sportsmanship and just not cricket!

Underarm bowling is actually illegal now, Dev, unless it`s been agreed otherwise between the captains before the start of the game. If it hadn`t, it would be called a no-ball. The law was changed as a result of that specific incident.
(Some years ago I took the ECB umpiring course, so I`m technically an ECB Level 1 umpire; this is one of those very rare occasions when I feel that I have at least some idea of what I`m talking about. Not a lot, maybe, but just some. I remember that during the course we spent quite some time discussing why the new law contained that caveat about the pre-agreement. Why not just make it illegal and have done with it? It was quite a few years ago now, but I do remember that the consensus was that that would have made more sense. As with many things ECB-related, who know what they were thinking. )

I'd forgotten they actually changed the rules ........... I'd have been a terrible umpire, but I never much needed one when playing. I used to WALK - which didn't go down well with my team on the two occasions that the umpire was happy to let me continue.
I suppose they could have defined what constitutes underarm bowling ....... but I suppose it would just be simpler to make it illegal though that might have an impact on getting children to take up the game.
To be honest cricket has changed so much now I barely recognise it, but I still check Derbyshire's scores. And I have wondered if England having three wicket-keepers worthy of places as frontline batsmen has anything to do with the Brexit backstop.

Love it Saltergate ......... all I could manage umpiring was being fair, being right was another matter.
By the way my Predication that I sent to Matt is Salford 0-1 Fylde.

Congratulations to Dev and thanks to Matt for doing all the leg-work. As Vinnie Jones famously said; it`s been emotional.
All being well, see you all next season.
