Hibs v Hertz, Sun 28 April, KO 12.15pm

Another Embro Derby looms ever closer and this time Hibs are at home in front of a sell out crowd and still unbeaten in league matches since Paul Heckingbottom's arrival. IMO this is a potential "pumping" to a Hertz team that is very ordinary and their manager will try to use this fixture to desperately raise morale. What do Hibs need to do? Same again and I'd hope the manager deploys a hi-press, pacy, attack on this dodgy Hertz defence with 1-touch/2-touch movement that will definitely "do the trick" if applied properly. C'mon Hibs!

A 1-1 result ensures Hecky's unbeaten league record is still intact and Hibs still ahead in 5th spot but this match result is a tad deceptive in the fact the Hibs should've really won this game comfortably by two or three goals and were by far the better side playing against a very ordinary and single-dimensional Hertz team with some dodgy defending that was self-evident again!! One can actually see why they have been jeered by their own fans for the past couple of weeks and the muted celebration of a draw by their fans is a delusion and "papering over the cracks" lol!! As for Hibs? Well they've gotta take their scoring opps and when a bogey ref like Thomson actually awards Hibs a very rare pk during a 14 year period, you f###### well take it and say "thanks very much" after battering the baw on target and "in the pokey"!! McNulty either "choked" or just proved he is only human. Anyway, no great damage done and I am personally not too bothered whether we attain that last Euro place or not - IMO too much of a distraction and it's importance is a bit of a misnomer, just something to talk about! Lastly, I thought Hecky's post match interview was more interesting than the game itself, which was distinctly lacking real quality and descended into a typical derby spectacle. His comments were very articulate and were the words of a "learning manager" who was quickly moving on after analysing where Hibs failed to apply themselves on a Hertz system that he insisted was "there to be exploited". We'll do better next time around and learn from it! I believe him because he is a far superior manager compared to a minion like Potter but that is not too difficult to achieve anyway!!

We looked totally dead on our feet after we scored, thought the gaffer should have changed it a lot earlier. Horgan was done 15 mins before he came off.

Thought we blew it really, the 3 points were ours and we played the better football. Just again that final ball wasn't quite good enough at times and the penalty miss was chronic.

Hertz were absolute cloggers, I lost track of how many players they got booked.

Yep! I'd also question why Djoum was still on the pitch after an hour? A persistent fouler from 1st half onwards and referee Thomson can only answer that. question! However, I can recall many instances of Thomson doing exactly the same thing in lotsa other matches down the years while sending off Hibs players for a lot less than observed yesterday. He is cute in these matches, always has been but had no choice in awarding Hibs that stonewall pk!! We have won very few games under this guy's officialdom during a period of 14 years and I reckon we've only won about 4 matches - amazing!!! Re Hecky's tactical ploy in this match, I must agree that he should've brought on big Marv to "see out" the game and pick up the 3 pts. IMO that was an error on the part of the manager and we must get away from results like this one where Hertz deserved absolutely nothing from the game - a bad habit we must eradicate and do ourselves a bit of justice against shit, physical sides like this one!!!

Taking the poorish Hearts performance to the side we still created enough chances to win the game and would have done so by 2 or 3 goals had we scored the penalty. A lot to play for during the net 3 games, 4th is still a real possibility.
