Al's post-match interview comments about Saido were interesting. Al said he doesn't get involved with contract talks and that he hadn't heard that contract talks with Saido had broken down. Makes me wonder if Saido's head is right, really, and that he was benched as a result.

Obviously delighted to have won but need to look at both sides of the performance.
My first game of the season due to work, money, not being arsed.
Villa were shit and created nothing the back 5 didn't have much to do but were quite solid throughout and were all fairly impressive, especially Lescott. Foster was a bit iffy with his kicking though.
The centre midfield three all worked hard and Morrison was a pleasant surprise for me as he broke up play very well. Gardner was good as usual but Dorrans was too quiet again.
Varela clearly has a lot of ability (that run in the first 10 mins) and his link up play with Pocognoli was encouraging, I'd have liked him to have got his crosses past Hutton more often though, Sess didn't do much and Ideye didn't really get the ball. Positive impact from Berahino.
The fans were quiet overall compared to Villa hence the library song but we were very loud in patches. Important points on the board.

Posting from a Safari Park in South Africa - this game has plagued me all day despite Elephants, Lions and a Leopard.
Sounds like a great 3 points but the performance still warrants the dismissal of AI on the basis that the win was a mistake!

The win was fully deserved; we attacked them early doors, Villa shut up shop and went for the 0-0 after Richardson was sent off, and it just took us a stupidly long time to break them down due to poor decisions and passes in the final third. The team also did their usual "reset button" trick of dropping deep after going ahead, which as I've said before, predates Irvine.
One of those days that I don't think Irvine could (or should) have done anything different - bar maybe bringing Saido on sooner - it's just that we have a team low on confidence who were in at the deep end today. I just hope he'll stick with them and they'll gel over Christmas.

Nervous win today against 10 men, unconvincing - yes but 3pts so happy days. For the record thought Widom and Mozza who you all know aren't my favourites played really well.
Villa fans singing F@#k the Albion ... No you didn't 1-0 boing boing # pride of the Midlands
Varela is going to be a star.
Pour yourself a big drink boys and enjoy the result if not the performance.

Just remembered Villa warmed up in front of me and they have some very strange looking players particularly Benteke and Cissokho.
