An interesting appointment, I think. Politically, it could be a very astute one in the light of what`s going on at the moment. I have heard of him (vaguely) and from what I know of the guy, he`s a completely different kettle of fish to Chris Turner.

Despite all the mud-slinging, somebody (presumably DA) is trying very hard. No doubt the cynics will put a completely negative spin on the appointment and make it out to be some sort of cover-up ploy, although that`s highly unlikely given his history. Where does this leave AC, I wonder?

Hopefully without a pot to pee in but I doubt it somehow. He knows what has been going on for years and it would probably cost DA a fortune to get rid.

I tend to agree; I suspect he will be well looked after financially, whatever happens.

I will say though that Mr Bean comes with a reputation for financial integrity that hopefully turns out to be justified. Whether his position will give him access to previous years` accounts I`m not sure, but if he is as straight as he seems it might clean things up a lot for the future.

But he is called Mr Bean.

I do however have to say that his appointment coincides with the best match preview that has appeared on Chesterfield's website for years. Several Basford players mentioned and assessed and not simply a cut and paste and paste from Wikipedia on the manager.

If that's what Mr Bean does for us I'll start eating Snickers.

I`ve just listened to GB`s interview on Spireites Digital and have to say that I was quietly impressed by what he said (although I do wish he hadn`t mentioned his connection with South Yorkshire Police; 3 words that aren`t likely to inspire confidence or respect in any football community).

I know it`s easy to be cynical – and life has taught me to be as cynical as anybody and more so than most – I think we`ve got to give the bloke a chance. It seems to me that his appointment is an attempt – presumably on the part of one of those devils incarnate Dave Allen or Ashley Carson – to establish some sort of constructive dialogue between the club and the supporters. I think we all realise that AC`s bolt is well and truly shot in that respect, as does AC himself presumably, and at the moment GB is making all the right noises and doing all the right things.

Time will tell whether or not this is a false dawn, but let`s give him a hearing and a chance.

If Mr Bean hadn't mentioned South Yorkshire Police, someone on the Derbyshire Times or Bob's or even a nit like me might have brought it up. He can't undo his own past, never mind an entire police force's.

As I see it, if Mr Allen wants the club to survive and doesn't want it hanging like a Giant Blue Albatross round his neck all the way to the crematorium, then at some point he needs to give a little. The fans can't give - they haven't anything to give.

At some point, whether as a result violent revolution or simple logic the two sides have to sit down together ...... to discuss either the renaissance of the club or its funeral arrangements. I hope Mr Bean can play a positive role.

Oh, dear. Now that DOESN`T inspire confidence, does it! I may have to take it all back.
