As Larry said every club does this up and down the country every game!! I suppose the thing here was the "no show" ST holders totalled in the region of 9,000, whereas I would imagine at most games across the country its a few hundred. I could see that being a story the media would cover but the fact there was an attendance figure that showed tickets sold, rather than persons attending is a non-story.

Twice that at Celtic Park on occasions but you don't see the media making a big deal of it or Peter Lawwell admitting it. Go figure.

Maybe the admission by the club shows a bit of naivity on their behalf and certainly feeds the media as well!! I saw another article that say the "real" actual number of fans in the ground was just under 16,000!! If so, then releasing the 19k figure was even more naive!!

I cant see admitting it being naive the figures are there in black and white. It just Shows the lengths certain chairmen will go perpetuate their illusion.

Actually the black and white figure is 28,000, this is what will go in the record books as the official attendance of this game as that is the amount of tickets sold for the event. That is no different to any other club. Maybe the club should just have stated that officially it sold 28,000 tickets for the game and left it at that.

The only reason Somers talked about it was because the DR was making up even lower figures. He was asked a question and either had to give the right figure or lie, or else a no comment would have been seen as confirming the DR's made up number. Despite all the focus on press regulation in recent years it"s still perfectly possible for a rag like the DR to deliberately harm a Plc by printing complete fabrications and attributing them to a mystery 'source'.

We seem to be getting lots of help though, don't we? Like you say, this is a non story, but that didn't stop the DR and BBC jumping all over it like WWIII had just broken out. Same as they've done with every other non story concerning us in the past few years.
But yes, the club itself has to take its share of responsibility. We need but have clearly never had a cohesive, sensible media communications plan in place, and the directors are all pulling in their own separate directions, happily feeding bits of shit to the gutter press to try to suit their own ends. At this point with promotion looking like a very remote possibility I think administration might not be a bad thing if it results in a clearing out of the mess that's there right now. Assuming someone would put up the money to take over afterwards, and I suspect that will never be Dave King. But even then, it wouldn't do much to get the fifth columnists of the SoS and UoF from xxxx it all up yet again.
