In the match article, I made what was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek comment about Alan Irvine doing a "Don Howe", but after reading this interview with Terry Burton tonight, I'm suddenly concerned that I may have been alarmingly close to the mark. This is the quote from Burton which makes such worrying reading:
"Don Howe was my mentor, I used to try and sound like him, everything. Don was the man, really. The first thing that always impressed you with Don was his coaching manner, he had an edge to his delivery, and he was so creative in his practises." Source: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014...on-arsenal- I've worried for some time now that there's a bit too much admiration behind the scenes at Albion for Roy Hodgson's way of doing things - which includes the stubbornly negative tactical approach Hodgson tried to force onto us with little success in his second season - and not enough innovation. Looking at Swansea is the way for the future, Albion; not looking at Hodgson, and certainly not looking at Don Howe. "I would rather spend a holiday in Tuscany than in the Black Country, but if I were compelled to choose between living in West Bromwich or Florence, I should make straight for West Bromwich." - J.B. Priestley

Varela and Ideye to start at last.

Let's hope Varela rips Hutton a new one

WBA Josh almost got it spot on:
West Brom XI: Foster, Wisdom, Lescott, McAuley, Pocognoli, Gardner, Dorrans, Morrison, Varela, Sessegnon, Ideye I'd say that's an attacking line-up.

Almost Aries, I would still like to see a game where Blanco and Gamboa start in this set up with Wisdom and probably Dorrans making way, though I could be talked into it being Morrison instead
Very good starting 11 with lots of pace and craft. I'm guessing that it is in the usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Dorrans and Varela outwide although it could be a 4-3-3 with Sessegnon on the right wing and Dorrans in a central midfield 3.
Me guessing 9 out of 11 isn't too bad. It's better than I have done all season.

Christ, I was looking so hard at who'd been picked in midfield that I actually missed that Ideye's been picked!

Has AI had a brain transplant?
Has his missus told him to grow a pair?? Has JP given him an ultimatum?? Has he been looking at these forums?? Why not go the whole hog and start Gamboa and Blanco too?? I am happy with starting 11 for first time this season, but would love to have the above 2 in aswell for Norman and Dozza. Lets see but I still fear the worst as its the first time Ideye and Varela have started together, if we lose lets hope he sticks with it and gives them a chance UNLESS he gets the sack of course ![]()
