It's easy to pick bones but these stats are damning,
It's obvious we are to slow getting back Eg slow midfield, slow to close down, slow defence or passing when we can't in our third, allowing poor Sam some over time in goal. It's no wonder we have conceded so many really when you have that many problems and that many shits against you !

I don't like 3 at the back generally, as I think it reduces forward options. I'd rather have that extra body in midfield.

In our case, we don't even have personnel for it anyway. None of our centre backs are ball carriers or particularly pacey.

With a 3 at the back you need either a ball playing, pacey player in the middle of 2 bruisers, who can bring the ball into midfield and start playmaking from the back or 1 bruiser in the middle of 2 ball carriers, who can bring the ball out into midfield. We just have 3 lumbering bruisers, none of whom are particularly comfortable getting drawn into the channels or have any pace.

I've said from the first day of the season that I don't think it's getting the best out of our squad of players with this system. While the formation is responsible for allowing us to have 2 up top and Barnes free, which has lead to some blistering attacking performances, I don't think it gives us enough in midfield to dominate games and leaves our slow centre backs in too many one on one positions, badly exposted. Especially away when teams are going 3 against our (usually aging 2) in midfield, we're getting over ran time and time again.

No surprise that against Wednesday, when we changed from 5 at the back to 4, we managed to get 2 goals back. Because we actually had an extra forward body to stretch them.

Unfortunately, the next game was back to the 5...

We must revert to a 4 with Dawson or Mears operating as a traditional right back. But I will not hold my breath that Moore is able to see it. I don't understand why when 4 against Derby, he put Adarabioyo at right back and Dawson in the centre, when Adarabioyo clearly isn't accomplished enough on the ball to play at right back. Dawson played there in the Premier League for years. If he doesn't trust Adarabioyo to play as a standard centre half, we might as well send him back to City.
