Anybody see this quote in the Evening mail ?
Irvine says Brown is edging closer to where he needs to be to make an impact in the Premier League.

“I think so, he’s actually trained the best he has probably trained in terms of his effectiveness - not in terms of his application but his effectiveness - in the last couple of weeks,” he said.
Also....

“So he’s certainly looking more like what we would hope he would look.

“He has scored goals in training. There was a time when he was struggling to do that. And I think he is feeling a lot better about himself at this particular time,”
Doesn't make great reading does it !!!

To be fair, that's a more optimistic assessment of Ideye than I expected! It's a bit better than "f**k me, this bloke's a donkey" Laugh

Yeh, I'm encouraged by the quote from AI re our record buy - no.... REALLY!! Seems like he may at last get some serious minutes on the pitch. If this is IN ADDITION to the likes of Valero and Blanco then things are definitely looking up.

It's one thing saying a few words but the proof of the pudding, though, and all that....

If we lose and lose badly, I think Peace will tie the noose and kick the chair because AI's position could become completely untenable. It could end up similar to when we beat Wolves 5-1 and McCarthy's position became untenable.

Given that it is a derby, previous form and results go out of the window so anything could happen. Hopefully the players can be seriously motivated to not only beat the Villa but also give the supporters something to be happy about.

It is always a high scoring game so I'm thinking 3-2 to us.

Talking of smilies, Stairs and Ska'd, is there going to be any festive smilies this year like there was last Christmas on New 606?

WalkingLaughingFlashingHohoho You mean these on page 2 of smilies. WalkingLaughingFlashingHohoho DD Thumb up Thumb up

That assessment is still pretty poor to me. It reads that "he's been quite clinical in training now, but he still isn't as fit as I'd like him"

or "He's banging them in, but doesn't really pressure the back 4 for 90 minutes"

Aries, good to see you are back.
So what makes you think Pulis will want the job, even had he'd been offered it? http://www.sportsbabble.co.uk/images/icons/smile.png
Bloody hell, how do you work these image things? Its worse than predicting our results!
Hi BBB, I've been back a bit now and it's great to be here, and it's great to see you old Baggies stalwarts again, although I still inhabit JA606 if only to keep our noisy neighbours in Wolverhampton in check. And Ska'd's match previews here are just ace. I'm not sure about Tony Pulis wanting to work with JP, but like Woy he'd get the work ethic back again and everyone doing their jobs properly and no shirking, and who knows, he might get to like working with flair players.

I think the Ideye statement makes sense in terms of him not playing in the matches when he isn't performing in training. Training is more important than the matches because it is where players practice and perfect their craft. If they don't perform in training then they don't deserve to start matches.

If AI is let go in the near future and we want a Hodgson like figure who will command respect then Dick Advocaat is available again. He probably won't stay at the club more than 18 months but he will settle the club down and bring back some consistency.

It explains why he wasn't making squads I guess. Well he scored 2 in the behind doors friendly so let's hope we can see our record signing playing !
Brunt defo out for Saturday so fingers crossed Varela starts.
I'm normally very much a pint half full bloke but sorry just can't see a win. Draw at best but fear 0-2
