The Chinese Water Torture Continues

Drip ....Drip....Drip....Drip .Narrow defeat after narrow defeat after narrow defeat ......
Martin Allen says he has good players and a good team but that good team has apparently just broken the club record with 6 League defeats in a row (Matt may back this up) and in the lowest league we have ever been in !.How bad can it get ?
Lets see ,the lowest Proact league crowd on Saturday for a start .
He also says he has never had as bad a run as this but if I'm correct didn't he leave Eastleigh after 2 wins in the first 14 games ?(Matt may back this up).
Where do we go from here ? What possible changes can be made to achieve a victory ? Well yet again we apparently played ok but yet again we lost by one goal .Are we cursed ? Should MA be sacked ? Can we trust those in charge to employ someone to turn us around ?.
I'm almost glad in a perverse way that DA is seeing his money going down the drain .He shouldn't have put faith in AC to run the club .

It looks from this distance as though one of the first things we need is for Martin Allen to get his head together. I'd send him on his own on a nice away day out in the peak, to wander, ponder and cogitate.

The teams he is selecting smack of desperation.

They seem to have two common elements - Nelson and Weir. I'm convinced Weir is simply a loser's loser. He has three younger centre backs than Nelson. All of them would get into several other teams in this division. So I think he needs to ponder the wisdom of these selections.

For the season he brought us in the most experienced National League goalkeeper. Now he is playing a 22 year-old. He needs to ponder that decision, not just from the angle of which appears to have the sharpest goalkeeping skills, but also on the lines of which of them has the best effect on the team.

Up front he is giving only Zavon Hines a consistent game. He seems to see problems with the others and those problems are indeed reflected in our inability to score. Although Gozie scored goals at Woking, when successful he is more a 10-12 goal man who is part of a forward line with a goalscorer. Fortune we were warned is not a goalscorer. Amantchi is 17, has been scoring recently, but surely he is destined to be one of those big strong forwards who can ALSO score a goal ............ so I'd have said Lee Shaw is our only actual goalscorer and he hasn't done it yet. So Mr Allen has to ponder both our way of attacking and the personnel he deploys ....... or even recruits.

In midfield, even when Carter is back it seems obvious we need both a bit of a re-think and probably a new player who has both a spark of creativity and the energy and timing to run and tackle.

Once you say there are problems in every area of the field it seems a huge task to turn things round, but it is ALWAYS the whole team which isn't scoring and the whole team which is conceding. Relatively small, but judicious changes can and do alter the pattern of entire games. We've all seen this at every level. Martin Allen has been doing this job for years. He needs a clear plan and a calm frame of mind. Whether he is capable of those things is the question. Certainly he can get things right. Certainly he can turn things round that others have got wrong. Can he correct his own errors, or will his reaction be Donald-Trumpish and might we see either toys flying out of the pram, or him exiting in high self-induced dudgeon? I hope not.

But even if Martin Allen can get us a few results on the field, as Pooch points out, there are problems behind the scenes which are going to hobble our progress.

I just thought I'd add what Martin Allen said on his sacking from Eastleigh after 2 wins in 14 games:-

"I've had two clubs win championships, with Gillingham and at Barnet, and it's been through hard work, desire and everybody in the team competing week in, week out. I'm not getting that here at the moment and I'm not enjoying it.

"I haven't got the vibe. I love the place, I love working with the chairman, I love the atmosphere when the crowd do get behind the players, but the players haven't given the crowd anything to lift them."

Bob's Board seems to be going into meltdown. How would these people cope with supporting Fort William?

I didn't know he managed Eastleigh! I though MA managed Barnet, Notts County, Gillingham, Brentford, Leicester City. Turns out he managed MK Dons, Reading and Cheltenham didn't know that either.

I do know that Ronnie Moore managed Eastleigh.

In addition to the record 6 defeats on the bounce, by my reckoning we`ve now gone 401 minutes (plus add-ons) since scoring a goal. That must be close to a record, surely. Over to you, Matt.

It should be a good excuse for a sing-along at least. "All we are saying ...........is give us a goal". (Variation an a theme of John Lennon, circa 1970.) I haven`t heard that sung at a game for years, but it`ll be going round in my head all day now.

All I know is we've only won 22 games out of a possible 101 since August 2016. Lost 61 games in that period.

Sinnot has gone so maybe somebody coming in?
We still have a long way to go to plumb the depths of the last 2 seasons. At least we do look capable of winning even if we cant score.
If we end up with another defeat on Sat Bobs, will explode.
Last season we had an unbalanced squad and a delusional manager, this season we have an unbalanced manager and a delusional squad but at least we do seem close to stopping the rot. My money is on MA to get it right and keep us up. Before he came in I was predicting another drop so if we stay up this season, that in itself would be an achievement in my eyes.

SGB said in one of his posts that the fans need to get behind the team and not berate them like some were last Sat. He's right, the last thing players lacking confidence want is some dick head giving then earache. We are not an FL club any more, we have no god given right to win games in this league, its going to be a battle. Fans need to be in it for the long haul.

Never understand people who go to football games and berate the players when confidence is low. They moan when we win and moan when we lose but I guess there's nowt so queer as folk. (No offense Dev)

And there are far more folk queer than would ever admit it.

And several of them are professional footballers.

I would have expected Sinnott to be good enough in the National League. He was good enough at Halifax. Clearly Jack Lester didn't think much of him and Martin Allen didn't want him from Day One. I wonder what happened. It's not as if he didn't have someone in football to advise him - his dad knows the game and its ups and downs.

What chance is there if you don't come from a non-football background and something goes awry? Where next, if anywhere for Jordan. It'd be a laugh if Halifax step in ...... in view of their current position. (That'd be egg on our face.)
