Asset Stripping

When are you going you wake up as fans and realise this is a proverbial Chinese Take-away? I drive 600 miles to watch the team I have supported for 50 years on match day. This wanker is ripping the heart out of my club. Get him the xxxx away from my home town team.

I watched the three degrees and stood on the Brummie during the Zenith Data years.

I was there when we beat Valencia and screamed when the guy was offside when Red Star came to town.

I shed a tear when we were replaced by Wimbledon in the top tier.

I screamed when Bradders scored a worldy against Wolves.

I was there when Steve MacKenzie sent Leeds down and riot horses charged fans for the first time in history.

I was moved from Halfords Lane to The Rainbow when we built the new stand and I sat watching the Brummie and Smetwick get rebuilt.

I watched Robson come through the kids to be arguably the worlds best midfielder of his generation.

There are hundreds of moments I can recall that remind me of the joy and misery of my love affair with The Albion but I have never felt as disenfranchised from my club as I do now.

A lot of us have serious concerns on how the club is being run and managed. We are stuck with the absent owners and hope they decide to sell sooner rather then later, Our 1st team is only 3 or 4 players different from last season. Injuries and suspensions will be critical, But if our youngsters can step up we still have a chance of promotion.
From the owners point of view, they had £40 million in cash when they purchased the club. We then went and blew it and got relegated. I'm sure they are not going to invest any serious cash after that. It's clear Jenkins is doing a job and is will continue to cut costs wherever possible.
Were all fans through the good and the bad, I won't let anyone influence my affection for my club.
P.S. Remi was one of my favorite players, what it would be to have him & Robbo now.

Sleeping when are people going to realise this is what happens when you drop out of the premier league?

The difference in revenue would jeopardize the club if we didn't get rid of some high earners.

I'd also prefer some of the young and hungry players we have now than the "assets".

Anyone questioning asset stripping needs to explain exactly why we have flex down contracts in place? And Jenkins saying we don't need to sell anyone. I agree attitudes were wrong with some so called super stars, but backfilling with free transfers is what? Not replacing Chadli. Is what. Replacing McClean with a loanee is what. Having no DOF after 9 months is what. We got rid of 3 CHs and signed 1. it all in all shows excessive cost cutting. Where's the money going / gone.

Phil, I can understand your thinking, we have asset stripped in so much as high costs have been cut and some players have not been replaced but I wouldn't call it asset stripping ....... to me asset stripping would be selling off anything with value and keeping the proceeds. Had we have done the same thing whilst still in the greed league then yes you can call it that but we're not, you can not run a Ferrari on a Ford fiesta budget ..... our income is massively down on last season our outgoings have to be reduced similarity ......

Hoping to be back next year although I hate the greed league and our budget and transfer dealings will match .... fingers crossed.

Personally I'm not happy with the state of the squad and how many outgoings compared to incomings that we have had.

That said, if the owner was asset stripping, we could've sold several additional players than we did.

Dawson and Rodriguez being 2 that we know about. They could've easily been sold and replaced with £5m players, netting the owner another £20m. But we decided to keep them.

In addition, some of our incoming players haven't been on the cheap.

Gayle must be on a Premiership wage. Johnstone cost £6m and we could've got a keeper on a freebie if all the owner was interested in simply making as much cash as possible. Bartley was signed from a fellow relegated team so would've been on Premier wages last season.

So there has been a significant cost reduction, which admittedly is worrying. But I've seen far worse from relegated teams in the past.

As for last season, we seemed to spend much bigger on transfers and wages than when JP was in charge. Unfortunately, we were mismanaged to relegation. It wasn't because the owners didn't back the manager.

Time will tell...

It seems to me the owners (or maybe Jenkins) do want to get us promoted but are trying to do so while saving as much money as possible for contingency. I just hope that we haven't left ourselves too short, as our squad seems very small.

Let's see what happens to the current £20 million surplus in transfer, and parachute payments. If January comes and it's gone that will answer the question.

Our flex down contracts protects the club financialy. So we had.no need to cut any cost. So please stop playing the reason for cost cutting is we dont have enough income. That's a nonsense statement.

I have no control over our owners or Jenkins, so I won't lose any sleep over their running of our club. YES it's our club - the fans, they have forgotten that.

Phil, I sense a little anger in your dark side, don't turn to the dark side, use the force within you for good, I'm not defending the directors, they should not promise what they know they won't deliver but our income will be massively reduced this year by all accounts we have cut 700K a week off of the wage bill (36 million). Not happy with the lack of depth but you can only buy players if clubs are willing to sell and players are willing to sign ...... we have a good core but may need to injury manage to keep us in the picture until January .... not the best time to buy but if we're looking likely to go up players more likely to sign .......

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU (and us).

Apart from the Bolton result all else is going well. Our biggest issue will be injuries and suspensions. If our youngsters do well we will be fine. Remember no club in the championship has a massive squad to choose from.
