Right, that`s enough realism for the time being, thank you. Can we have a bit more 'head in the clouds' fantasy now, please?
Seriously, I though we were much better yesterday and if we`d played that way against Barnet we`d have won it; probably unlucky not to get at least a point yesterday. I was talking to one or two of the Orient fans after the game and they thought that a draw would have been a fair result. Their 'keeper made a couple of top-class saves - the one from ZH in the first half was outstanding - and maybe I`m being blinkered, but apart from one occasion in the first half I don`t remember Burton really having that much to do.
The 4-4-2 system we played seems to suit us much better and having JBW back made a big difference. Certainly in the first half, he seemed to give their defence a few problems and it was noticeable that nearly all our attacks came down the wings - again, very little creativity or threat through the middle, I thought. ( I promise I`m not going to start banging on about Danny Whitaker again.) That`s fine; if that`s the way MA wants us to play I don`t have a problem personally, but we really have to a) improve the quality of our crossing and b) get enough players into the box to get on the end of them. MA said after Barnet that he thought we weren`t competing enough for headers in the area; I`m inclined to think it`s got as much to do with the quality of the balls coming in.
If we can keep playing like that, things will turn around before long. It was noticeable that, as soon as they scored, we went completely flat and never looked like equalising. To me, that`s a sure sign of a team totally lacking in confidence - which is not at all surprising given our current run. Get a win under our belts, no matter how it comes, and I think things will start to improve. At the end of the game I was just disappointed and frustrated, not angry and frustrated as I was last week. The only anger (rage?) I felt was towards those of our 'supporters' who thought it was appropriate, on their way out, to stop for a minute or so to swear loudly at and make unpleasant gestures at their own players. There was no lack of effort from any of the players yesterday, as far as I could see, and being on the receiving end of a tirade of abuse from people who are supposedly on their side is really going to do their confidence a power of good, isn`t it.
What is it with these people?
