Gerrard, much as I think he showed his true character in a bar with some Accrington Stanley players, has at least gone into coaching and does seem serious about management.

The treatment Murty received ought to be enough to give any serious candidate pause for thought.

The problem for Rangers at my distant remove seems to be that on top of the apparently incurable chaos behind the scenes, they simply need to recruit better players. Whilst I'm sure Gerrard's knowledge of top-level players in England will be good, as now may also be his knowledge of the youth scene, Rangers won't be recruiting big-money players, youth loans won't do it for them, and Gerrard may not know that much about players from the next tier in England who could step up. Equally there are bargains to be found on the continent, but as there are also complete planks, Gerrard would SERIOUSLY need to know what he was doing. Does he? However good his motivational and coaching skills I wonder if Steve Gerrard has the background to access more talent than Hibs, Aberdeen, Motherwell etc ......

If I were him I'd ask myself how many problems I really want in life.

That's it 0762. He could just be happy instead.

Certainly managing Rangers didn't make Murty happy.

Gerrard confirmed he has had "initial talks" with rangers, more taking place today/Friday.

Roy hodgson warning him to do "due diligence". Obviously even woy knows what an untrustworthy snake dave king is.

also 2 sevco directors resigned yesterday, I don't think their board is united on this candidate for the job somehow.

It`s official, I`m hoping like McInnes said that it will continue to lift the EPL which does seem on a rise in my opinion at least

Steven Gerrard has been appointed as Rangers manager on a four-year deal.

The former Liverpool midfielder, 37, replaces Graeme Murty, who was placed in interim charge following the October sacking of Pedro Caixinha.

It will certainly increase the exposure of Scottish football having a name like Gerrard in charge of Rangers. It also adds a different dynamic to the Celitc Rangers rivalry with the Gerrard/Rodgers connections from Liverpool. It would be very interesting to know what guarantees he has been given, I would hope he got these in writing somehow!!!

Time will tell if this will be a success, could easily go either way, but its certainly going to be a baptism of fire for Gerrard and his first management job!! How are the rangers fans viewing this appointment?

Many of them view it as a 'marquee signing' that places Rangers profile at a higher level. However, I'm similarly intrigued re what promises/assurances have been made from a footie club that needs to be restructured from top to bottom and certain officials, incl King, removed asap.

I think it is a marquee signing and it will give Rangers some extra profile but its only as a consequence of him being a world famous player, not as a manager. Its a good move for both but only if it comes off, I applaud them for being bold and taking the risk on an unproven manager!!

I don't think this is particularly a footballing decision. Sevco were crying out for an experienced coach who could organise a team of ordinary players into something more....a la mcinnes or clarke. Instead they have gone for a guy with even less experience than murty.

Knowing king this will be about money. King will be hoping rangers are more of an investable vehicle with stevie gerrard whether its season books, merchandise or funding. Its about saving kings hide. He's playing the huns for complete fools, which to be fair isn't hard but they really should have been looking at a low cost model that added value going forward. How typical of them not to.

This is going to be car crash stuff.
