Unfortunately I think yesterday you witnessed the inevitable results of the decline Paul Cook foresaw before baling out.

Random, insignificant investment wasted by Saunders, next-to-none for Danny, which left Caldwell with a job which was wholly beyond him. Jack started from the back of the grid in a car the mechanics hadn't touched.

Perhaps yesterday's display will do more for the club than the previous two victories. We have until midweek to save ourselves. Otherwise we will be relying on Jack's make-do-and-mend skills and the unexpectedly successful recovery from injury of a couple of players who may or may not have more to give.

A very young keeper can be prone to dreadful errors. That's why NEVER again should the club we love leave itself in such a position. But the positive aspect is that he came through 42 minutes more without falling apart. What we're asking of him is hard. Jack needs to pick him again next week ....... and the crowd needs to chant his name. If everyone gets behind him, if he's really got it, he'll respond. Goalies want to save their team. Goalies want to be heroes. Make him a hero and he'll become one.

Unfortunately Dancing is right, limiting goals against is relatively easy if you do it by killing goals for.

We could all have a sing along on the coach next season;

Going to Salford City
That's where I'm gonna go
Going to Salford City
Why I'm going I dunno
Maybe when I get there
Boy I might see a goal... or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5

Sing after me.........

Dancing you need to read what I put ? where did I say we played well or put in a good performance ?? .
Im more realistic than you ,I may be slightly too positive but you are definitely too negative at times .During Danny Wilsons tenure our opinions were reversed !
We are in a dire position and there's no getting away from it ,yesterday it was a poor quality game with nothing in it and a freak goal was the difference ,If Stevenage were honest they would say they didn't really deserve to win it but neither did we .

Blue I am not a pessimist, I just say how I see things and yesterday worried me because it was just like going back to GC days. Uninspiring and negative. I was trying to make the point that we were turned over by them a couple of weeks ago and if it had been me I would have been fired up and raring to go, we weren't, we were like little kittens all over the park. We knew what Stevenage were about and should have expected everything we got.
You look for positives in everything but to say COG would have scored with a header if it had been on target when it went yards wide is just plain baffling.
I don't want us to go down but in my eyes I see a team capable of going that way. We need goals on the board and quick or else and I don't see COG or Dennis being the answer.

The header from COG should have hit the target and this is one of the main reasons we are struggling ,he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.
When the man you've brought in to be your main striker at the start of the season has scored 2 by February you are in deep shite.
Of course its not just OG that has failed to get enough goals ,you could include Rowley,Kellett ,Degirolamo any of the 3 or 4 behind Denno and Kay doesn't look like he's going to get many either.
I agree we were sluggish off the ball when we were in possession ,the movement was poor and Jack alluded to this in his post match interview ,It is up to you though Jack to instil the 4 pillars you talked about when you came in .Purposeful, aggressive ,energy ,winning mentality. Its fair to say none of them were on view yesterday .

Even good teams have bad games, games where they can't get going.

They beat Luton, when Luton couldn't get themselves together, on merit. They ARE a BAD team, but there are several pretty poor ones, and the half-decent ones are also capable of becoming BAD sometimes.

I remember pointing out months and months ago we had no one capable of adding significantly to our goals for column. Many of them had a binary lifetime total of league goals ......... only Dennis has regularly proved capable of scoring double figures in a season, though Ugwu has twice suggested he also would be capable if he were ever to get fit.

McCourt, Reed, Rowley and Weir are all doing as well or better than we could have expected in terms of goals. We are what we are. Jack has to conjure goals out of this team and somehow drag it into 22nd place. I don't envy him.

By the way Brewster was AGAIN subbed early this week by Chorley, didn't score and they couldn't beat North Ferriby. Jacob Hazel didn't score this week!

Dev I think Rowley should be getting more goals considering he's a forward thinking midfielder albeit playing wide .Weir is a defender and Reed a holding midfielder with a licence to take all set pieces so perhaps he should get more .Mcourt is ok with the goals tally .
Perhaps Jack was right about Brewster all along and maybe Hazel's head has been turned...... by us .

From whom are we to expect goals in the current team?

O'Grady took 14+ seasons as a striker to get to 100 goals. DeGirolamo remains seated at games. Rowley seems to be out wide which he also seems not to like. McCourt scored his few goals in a rush. Kay has no scoring record. Kellett was supposedly a full back when he arrived and hasn't been prolific ever. Dimaio picks up the odd goal but not the odd game to score it in. Weir averages 2 a season so even if we move him forward from full back we can't expect more than the odd goal. It's up to Dennis to score. Hines can be expected to grab a few, but our potential for goals is very low.

I think Hazel is allowed one week without scoring. Frickley did win a tough away game to consolidate in second place. Don't know whether Jacob was even in the team, but another player got both goals.

Rowley flatters to deceive for me (sorry Blue). He gets in some good positions, shows a bit of skill and then wastes it.
He had a shot from the right and missed Sat when if he had pulled it back slightly Dennis was running in and would probably have scored. Sometimes he is very wasteful with his final ball or just runs into trouble.

No need to apologise Dancing and I agree he is wasteful but he is only 18 and still has massive potential. He has grown and filled out this year and spurt growths can sometimes affect progress until the co ordination catches up again.Having said that an 18 yr old Kev Davies walks all over him.
Dev's right we haven't got a goalscorer other than Dennis ,lets hope Ugwu and Hines can contribute asap.
