Aberdeen v Hibs, Sat 16 December, KO 12.30pm

We move on from a very unfair and unlucky defeat at ER to an away league match at Pittodrie v a Dons' side that we still have a chance of catching. That aspiration could end tomorrow all the same although one must remember that Hibs are unbeaten away from home this season and we are actually playing very well! My main concern is the psychological impact after being 'robbed' by a poor Rangers side - that is what irritates me more than the result - IMO they are a poor side with some pretty average players in their line up!
I don't think Lenny needs to change things too much TBH. Possibly don't start Shaw this time and keep him for this latter stage of this match. Drop Rocky as well? Losing 'impossible to score' goals at his near post in big matches appears to be his 'Achilles heel'!!!! Rolleyes

Aye Jim. I think we've gotta 'battle' their midfield to try and win this match. Hence Marv is certainly likely to return to the Hibs 1st team. We need to finally win one of these top 4 clashes!

Battle is the last thing on these players minds this afternoon.

We have been totally schooled by aberdeen. Embarrassing.

A very poor show by all accounts and one which will have Lenny raging.
It`s no disgrace in losing to the team second in the league at their home ground BUT it is when it looks like you`re not giving 100%. Over the years Hibs have had periods where we only take 4 or 5 points out of a possible 21 or 24 and that has held us back. The last 3 matches have cost us big time- we could have beaten Celtic, at least drawn with Rangers and today is best forgotten but a very realistic 4 points produced only 1.
We must keep on fighting because Rangers losing today still leaves us with a great chance of finishing top 3.

My OP could not have been more accurate - a big concern re the possible impact of that awful loss v Rangers after playing so well and that 'fear' was confirmed! The post-match quote by Lenny summed it up succinctly - 'well done Aberdeen, I take back my second best team rating of Hibs, Cowdenbeath would have beaten Hibs today'!! The mistakes were astounding TBF but Hibs fans have had good past experience of this kinda shit! Rocky beaten at his near post again but the defending was 'cream puff'! The gaffe by Efe was IMO compounded by Darren Mac who should've called, 'Man on Efe, ma baw' and CLEARED IT!!! How many times down the years I've used that exact warning when playing footie and also coaching kids!!!! Fundamental stuff and he didn't do it in a generally poor 90 mins of low commitment for the cause by certain Hibs players. Also noted that Hibs previous opponents in a tortuous match, Rangers, were similarly 'mince' and well beaten by St Johnstone. One positive that came out of that Rangers loss was my bet on St Johnstone who I reckoned would have a decent chance to beat them at Ibronx at ridiculous odds - I was right! Even Aberdeen were priced at 3/1 today, which I perceived to be a decent bet but didn't opt for it! Hibs need to regroup and quickly recover v Ross County. My main concern is that we are now entering a 'critical phase' where Hibs tend to be drawn into a period of poor form coming into January commitments - we must avoid that at all cost!

We never looked right from the off today, the players looked 'flat' and there was a real lack of pace about our game. Perhaps the exertions of the previous 2 games did take a toll, but that kind of performance is absolutely gutting. I'm starting to get a wee bit concerned about marciano now i have to say.

No real surprise about the rangers result either, and i had a wee wager on saint johnstone too. The wins over aberdeen were against a team who thought their manager was for the off,and they were very, very fortunate against us. ross county were unlucky too..They can't play a counter attacking game at home basically and when they have to set up to attack at ibrox they are nearly always found out.

Been away this weekend and got a big shock when I saw the result. Sounds as though we weren't up for it. I'm not a believer in bogey teams, but Aberdeen have got us where they want us (except for Cup games). Let's hope Lennon gets tore into the team this week.

Yep, I concur with that view as well. Just been discussing that very subject with my son re the Aberdeen 'bogey' of not winning league games for far too long, home or away. That is highly unsatisfactory when, bizarrely, Hibs comparable cup record v the Dons is very good!!! Rolleyes I must add that one criticism of Lenny's tactics in Saturday's defeat is his lack of awareness of the consistent threat of Mackay Stevens and not 'doubling up' on the winger!!! Thumb down Any knowledgeable 'veteran Hibs fan' would have been well aware of this lad's consistent threat against us for Dundee Utd, Celtic and now AFC!! As soon as I saw his name being re-introduced in Saturday's AFC team sheet, the 'alarm bells were ringing' re that issue alone!! The concern was justified AGAIN!! Deja vu!
