El derby de descenso
#1
ok, so it may not be a local derby, but this is arguably the biggest game in out season so far, yes we have just played manchester city last time out at home and have chelsea next tuesday, but this is where we need to be picking up the three points, these are the games that can define where we finish the season. We have to be beating the teams that are expected to be around us come the end of the season, especially at home.

At the start of the season both ourselves and brighton were predicted to be propping up the foot of the table, with brighton expected to give some of the other teams a run for their money, whilst town would find the whole thing completely overbearing. However, for a period both teams have upset the apple cart with town beating the likes of manchester united at home, whilst beginning the start of the season with a win away at a crystal palace side that under ronald deboer were expected to be dark horses. Whilst Brighton effectively tightened the noose around slaven bilic's neck with a win at the London Stadium. Other than that there isnt that many standout results, but, they have got a better away record (not hard) and they have managed to get away with draws in games that we at this moment would probably have managed to lose.

In recent times, both sides faced up against the meryside twins, both leaving the respective games with nil points, town were beaten at Goodinson park, mainly due to not creating any telling chances despite seeing more of the ball than what we have been used to in the last few games. The Seagulls on the other hand welcomed Liverpool to the Amex but saw them run riot and travel back north with a 5-1 victory on their back, this despite naming two midfielders at centre half, pretty much highlighting the necessesity on having talented forward players. Something that town are probably lacking in one shape or another, whilst Brighton have enigmatic forward players that sometimes find them squeezed out of the game, however, with this being a game that both sides will view as being winnable, the likes of knockaert may see themselves having a more prominant say in the game.

Last time the two sides met both sides were aiming for the automatic promotion places, with town having a busy period at the same time, having to face both brighton and leeds in a couple of days. Town eventually ran out 3-1 winners against brighton with goals from tommy smith, nahki wells and elias kachunga whilst tomer hamed scored for the visitors who also saw lewis dunk sent off for a second bookable offence on now brighton loanee izzy brown. The game was one in which town overwhelmingly dominated in every facet and should arguably have put brighton to the sword more than they did, although a repeat performance and result would be great for us given the last few games. What Kachunga wouldnt give to get his first premier league goal too, I think the same can be said of tom ince too. And if anyone cant remember what happened in the leeds game, here is something to refresh the memory...

The first time that town and brighton met was early in the season when numbnuts here decided to make the short journey down to the south coast. Town went and probably gave the home side a little too much respect and didnt create too many chances. it was goalless until the final ten minutes, but our little nemesis in knockaert managed to squeeze a long distance effort under the body of danny ward, or rather danny ward let a long distance effort squeeze under his body but it is a bit of a potato potatoe instance.

In regards to coming up against each other, fixtures between the two sides date back to 1922 after which the two sides didnt meet again until 1958, there has been 17 town wins, 22 defeats and 15 draws, including a few eye catching results, both successful and not. Back in 2013, a leonardo Ulloa hattrick and a penalty from david lopez condemned town to a 4-1 defeat, james vaughan scoring towns only goal. Further back on the final game of the 2011 season and also the final game at the Withdean stadium, town came out 3-2 winners, a brace from benik afobe and a late danny ward (fat one) effort earning the three points with the brighton goals coming from matt sparrow and ashley barnes. the main standout result came back in 2009 where town put 7 past the visitors. the visitors sole goal came from former town loanee liam dickinson, whilst defenders anthony kay and peter clarke got on the score sheet along with danny drinkwater, lee novak, gary roberts and a brace from theo robinson. ultimately brighton would survive the season whilst town would miss out in the play offs away at milwall.

As for team news, town are expected to have the same squad to choose from, with martin cranie expected to be fit to appear on the bench. Kasey palmer made his long awaited return to action against everton, and whilst it is still a long road for him before he is fully fit, it wouldnt be surprising to see him step up his game time especially when he will be missing out on the tuesday against his parent club. Elsewhere, rajiv will be serving the final game of his suspension, so kachunga and quaner will have a final chance to stake a claim for tuesdays game. Sabiri may also return to the squad to offer an attacking option whilst i would also envisage lolo to continue to lead the line alone. Off the field the man, the myth, the legend, mr hefele has returned to the training field, but is still building up his fitness, although it probably isnt unthinkable that a place on the bench may be in the reckoning. Philbil and jon goranc stankovic are also due to return to training in the near future, but maybe not in time for the christmas run in (are we really saying that!?) In regards to saturdays line up, i would probably say it may be as you were, with the only potential changes coming at full back.

For the visitors, they too are aiming to end a 4 game losing run and may make some changes to the side that lost to liverpool. One thing that could probably be guarenteed is that knockaert will start as will glenn murray and key midfielder pascal gross. elsewhere, lewis dunk will be heavily relied upon to keep towns two big strikers quite during the game, whilst evergreen bruno will be used to give the side that experienced head. Izzy brown could also be in line to make a return to the starting line up, but so far this season he has been underused and restricted to mainly bench appearances, with some of the brighton faithful being a little underwhelmed by his performances.

In other news, collossal defender christopher schindler has moved to quash reports that he has become homesick in england and is looking for a move back to his homeland. "At this period, for instance, around Christmas, there are bound to be times when you miss your family at home and have homesickness

"But I am not the only one here who feels homesick because it is something which is natural for every human being, not just a football player or someone in a foreign country. Every person here in Huddersfield and the area who I am in touch with tries to make my life as comfortable as possible and support me very well.

“That’s why I am so grateful and thankful and happy to be here.”

so fear not town fans, he isnt going anywhere, but if a team like dortmund et al came in we could hardly begrudge him the move, well, we could, but he would be deserving of the chance, just ideally he wouldnt go especially not half way through the season.

As for our bespecticaled manager, he has made the same comments in regards to the atmosphere, saying that it makes a massive difference and the players like always will be needing that extra ounce of support, which of course in the large part will be given, despite the odd moaning idiots that are not happy whether we gerrit forrad or keep it ont grand. its generally those individuals, that complain which ever method that is taken...  Huh  Doh  Dodgy  Angry

Top notch effort that jjamez. Thumb up If only the councils of Muddled England would put as much effort into clearing the snow and putting some salt down on the roads. I've skated down the pub this evening. Don't those numpties know I've a match to get to and prezzies to drop into Santa's sleigh up North this weekend. Doh

Anyway, if I get there I'll be clapping me hands and stomping me feet with the rest of 'em. We'll have to keep warm somehow, seen as how giving a fellow fan a hug for warmth can be interpreted the wrong way these days. Might have to get me flask out of retirement. Hoping for a good game as long as plod doesn't call it off for being afeared of getting pelted with snowballs outside the ground. Fan safety my ar......mpits. Whistle

Meanwhile, I'm not saying they breed 'em thick and fast down here, just thick .. https://www.expressandstar.com/news/2017...000-times/

Nice one, jjamez. Thumb up

Last season we pummeled this lot. We need another performance of that level today. Our nemesis Knobaert was very quiet that night. Hopefully we'll shut him out again.

There were some right knobs behind us today. You'd think we were losing 10-0 to hear them. They were executive box wazzocks.
