On Sam Field I have never been impressed with him
Now Harper who came on looks twice the player ?
Maybe it's about options but at just 17 give me Harper anyday !

All over Twitter
Rondon threw his shirt on the floor at full time
Didn't speak to anyone
According to Steve B and Matt Wilson at the E&S
Him and chadli left before anyone else
Think they are both gone !!

Thought the same about Field. He runs about, plugs the gaps, but has no confidence at all going forward.

Harper looked pretty good in his cameo. He passed the ball well and I liked how when he passed, he was on his bike for the return ball.

The fact we had to start with Field shows we are desperate in this position, we need 2 midfielders IMO.

I'm guessing Chadli will go when Swansea sell Sigurdsson. As for Rondon, it's a shame because he's always been a good pro, but I think Rodriguez today was a huge improvement. If he does go (I'm not sure we'll get our money back, unless he goes to the far East), we will need to replace him.

Thought today's performance was good (even very good at times) - especially the first half when we were on top for long periods. Seemed to get the ball forward quicker than usual, ran at the opposition and looked like scoring a couple more before HT. A more defensive 2nd half but still looked threatening on the break and were worthy winners. Also felt the atmosphere was upbeat (new season, new hope ?)

Top Performers (in no particular order): Phillips, Rodriguez, McClean & Hegazi. Everyone else contributed to the win.
Negative: Rondon running directly down the tunnel at FT, throwing his shirt down at the entrance.
Nice Touch: Applause for DeFoe when warming up and coming on as sub.

Enjoyed the game. Jay Rod could have had a hat-trick in the first half. Hegazi was good and capped his debut off with a goal. Nyom superb. McClean worked tirelessly at both ends of the pitch. All in all quite positive.
The negatives - yet another referee who was absolutely dreadful!
Also, the Baggies have had all summer to sort out their big, spanking new curved screens so WTF were they not working?

Not even on the bench), but non of us know what limitations TP had that prompted THAT starting XI.....and you've got to hand it to him - to win with that team today is some achievement no matter who the opposition (no slur intended on Bournmouth) .

Yeah he is injured, not sure how soon he'll be back.

I agree completely with everyone complimenting McLean, his work rate is always top class and he has a fair few moments of quality.

All in all a well deserved 3 points; can't recall us ever really being tested by Bournemouth which considering they had 70%+ possession shows how solid and organized the players were.

We haven't been a possession side for many a season now and if we can keep McClean, Phillips and Rodriguez playing like they did yesterday, I think we have the makings of a very good counter attacking side providing we strengthen in the middle, because and with no disrespect to either Field or Harper who both did well yesterday, we clearly have money in the kitty to sign a real top quality box to box and that's something we're really missing.

The only negatives yesterday would have been how we only managed to score just the one goal in that game, and Rondon's reaction to not starting and heading straight down the tunnel at full time instead of coming over to the fans like the rest did. I'd be wary about reading to much into that as I don't think he's going anywhere, just clearly annoyed to not have started in the game.

Also I think the attendance yesterday was decent considering the doom and gloom in pre season etc. Was a very positive atmosphere and am now very much looking forward to Burnley away next week.

COYB!

Indeed. Megson prowling the touchline, balling his head off. A nice 1-0. Like it's 2002 all over again  Laugh

Like Prince sang "we're gonna party (play) like it's 1999 (2002).

We only need one goal, we only need one goal, one goal, we only need one goal

Super, super Bob, super, super Bob, super Bobby Taylor.

Gary megson's blue and white army, Gary Emerson's blue and white army.

Thought Brunty had a decent game at LB.  Maybe we don't need one after all?
Nyom as cover if required?
Nyom and Dawson as RB options.
Hell, McClean could even fill in at LB if need be!
The bonus of having Brunty on the field is that his corners are absolutely leathal, and may be crucial to us winning games this season.
Im guessing that's where a lot of our goals are going to be coming from again?
 Whistle

Also thought Harper looked the bussiness Thumb up
How old does he have to be to give him a long term senior contract?
Otherwise the sharks may be circling again...  Dodgy

After the debacle of the last third of last season I was unsure whether to renew my season ticket this year in the Halfords corner but did so on the promise of 'early business with exciting signings'

Well, the early business did not happen but I have to say this Jay Rodriguez fellah along with Ahmed Hegazi seem brilliant acquisitions. Seen them twice now and most impressed especially with Hegazi whilst Jay needs to get up match speed and fitness. They could prove to be the best signings since Youssouf Mulumbu for £150k.

Good atmosphere and entertaining footy so, worthwhile renewing as long as it continues.
