Pointless - this week W, X, Y, or Z
Who remembers Gerry Howshall (mid 60s)?
Very underrated "wing-half". He was basically a squad player, but I never saw him have a bad game.
Don't know what happened to him.

What about N.Ireland International Danny Hegan.
We paid about £70k (not peanuts in them days) for Danny in 1969, and I saw him score a cracker at Crystal Palace from about 30 yds. But he was identical in style to The General (another H), though not as good. It seemed a luxury to me, especially as Bobby Hope was about 25 - unless Bobby was being chased by a Liverpool or Everton. (Bobby was the best of his kind at about that time, along with Johnny Giles).

Only a few years later I watched Solihull Borough v Coleshill Town, and Danny Hegan was playing for Coleshill. What a come down, as he could only be about 30, and he was a NI international a couple of years earlier.

Graham Harbey, blond defender who joined from Ipswich, lumped balls upfield and had a hard shot and little else...

Good memories, esp from GlassEye, Bomber, D-D, Bierzo, Beefy for obscure Pointless answers.

This week it's  I  and  J

(couldn't think of any I's, nor many J's) but in my first ever Albion game we had Clive Jackman in goal. I was too young to assess him really.

How about our Japanese midfielder Junichi Inamoto. While he played for us the Japanese press showed a much greater interest in the Baggies.
For J who remembers the legendary winger - wee Willie Johnston! Anyone want to buy a greenhouse? One game he came out of the tunnel wearing a clown's mask. Totally committed, unpredictable and a Baggies legend!

Martin Jol, stalwart of the mid-Eighties and many times rumoured as our new manager, always incorrectly.

Gonzalo Jara. I thought a decent player but slated by a few

When Robson left I don't mind admitting I cried like a baby BUT then Martin Jol made me better. What a player he was. Rock Hard and could score goals too. Why we are on Jol I will put my 'Z' in now, his Dutch partner in crime Zondervan Whistle

Alec Jackson played on the right wing and I saw him play in my first attendance at the shrine.
To be honest don't remember much about him but he played over 200 games for us and scored over 50 goals. Not a bad strike rate for a winger.

Stan Jones; big tough no nonsense CB whose clearances often went into row Z.

Players whose names began with I are definitely thin on the ground but, my Matthews publication lists just one: a G F Inwood a left winger who joined us from Rushden Town in 1946 and was transferred to Hull City in 1950. Just 12 appearances and one goal.
Hardly a legend then!
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.
