Huddlestone looked a great player 5-6 years ago, and I thought he'd get 50 England caps. But he's not even 1st shoice with Hull, and I don't believe he's a Pulis type of player, esp as we need some young legs in midfield - he's 30 now.

Kone has been linked with us for some time.

Agree with TalkSAFT that Huddlestone seems past his prime (perfecct for us then!). I'd rather we invested in one or two of the other midfielders we have bene linked with.

But one thing for sure, West Brom like a bargain!

I appreciate that we're not in the same league as other PL regarding transfer funds but neither are we poor and we do have money. So why does everything have to be on the basis of bargain basement and VFM. I'm not suggesting we play over the odds for players but Negredo, Huddleston, Robertson, Kone etc all played for teams that got relegated for a reason. I'm sure they're ok players but couldn't Pulis and the club set their sights slightly higher?

Income 2016-17 is about (say) £140m  (incl 120 from the League, 7 through the Gate, 13 from Commercial).
Wages 2016-17 were 84 (does that include ALL Staff?) Other Overheads (say) 10.

Very broad-brush, but our Wages were (I think) the 14th highest in the Prem.
How much would they be if we had a FULL squad? (Our bench was only just filled with Youth players earning not too much, you'd imagine).
Say we got really ambitious and aimed for Top 6:  The Wage Bill would have to be more like 100 (minimum)

It doesn't leave a lot to spend really at today's inflated Transfer Fees. This Summer we might push the boat out and spend the Berahino money, but we'd need to bank another 25 from Rondon to get a decent Bank Balance first.

To quote BaggieSteve we can 'set our sights slightly higher', and perhaps Mr.Lai can see a future worth paying £175m for, but those Jeremy bashers have to appreciate that he didn't want to tip us over the top.

A few more added today - Faozi Ghoulam (Defender) and James McCarthy (Midfield) - both high prices and so typically out of reach for West Brom. But you never know.......

Delph is still rumoured to be of interest - just wish the clu would make a few clear statements on intent

The window is now formally open and so in theory we could sign someone today...................................

McCarthy is not worth anything like £25m. It's ridiculous
