Fletcher has been a good servant for the past 18 months but the time came that he needed to be replaced. I would have preferred him to have been kept as a midfield cover man but at least this way there are 2 spaces open for signings. A defensive midfielder (Carvalho if we can entice him or Camacho) to replace Yacob is a definite need (keep Yacob though) and a central midfielder to push Livermore and Morrison is a possible option although we do have Field.

I hope it's not a sign of the window ahead when someone we obviously wanted to keep has decided to join a rival instead.

That said, from a football point of view, I'm happy with the outcome.

Good personality, mentality and still a great engine but lacking in quality. At 33, his best days are long gone in Livermore, we have someone who can already do a very similar job.

Did great when he came in to 'steady the ship' but if we're looking to move forward, had to be replaced anyway.

Secret agent Hughes continues his mission, a striker who did not strike and a midfielder who has past his best by date and has not been the best at building from the back these last few months. Bring in Lescott and Stoke may be joining the Midland division.

Yacob does not need replacing. We are so weak without him, one of the first names on the team sheet for me. We are far better with him than without as witnessed at every home game this season. When it was Fletcher and Livermore we couldn't stop anything.

My first reaction when we signed Darren Fletcher originally was of jubilation, an absolutely quality player for Man United and very much under appreciated in the game.

The bloke in my opinion has been a pivotal player for us and wish him all the best - apart from when he plays us next!

However it's been clear to see that he's not been able to maintain his fitness when starting constantly for us, especially apparent when there's more than one fixture a week. Can't criticize him myself personally as knowing his back story of illness he's an inspiration for maintaining his career at the top level.

I really hope that this is the start of a decisive and successful transfer window for us as it's a huge decision to let him go. Although with the FFP limits we face, Darren's wage would have been the highest or right up there in the squad and that opens the door to bringing another top player in.

Let's hope to be seeing a new CM holding up the shirt soon! COYB!

Could not agree more. The biggest mistake Pulis has made recently was dropping Yacob to accommodate Livermore - I'd have given Fletcher some time on the bench if it were me plus also have given Field some more time off the bench as well and starts.

I think at the end of the day I am happy with this, he was good for us and we were good for him.

Fletcher was a great captain for us. He proved people wrong. His health has improved and he has played many more matches than people thought. Good luck to him, he'll need it, at Stoke.

But, we can do better and certainly sign younger and so lets see what the summer brings.
