TP has invested time and effort in reviewing the player. He has gone on record to say what a quality player and 'giant' he is. TP is highly respected by his peers and so they will take note and then look at the player themselves i.e. TP is scuppering any chance he has of stealing this player from under their noses by begging him up.
Not forgetting the club and agent will create a bidding war!
We do have money this time, it is reputed, and so maybe we can bid higher for the player - but so can others.

Stairs, You may be very well be and probably are right. However, with a political hat on, maybe TP is smarter than we think, perhaps he is aware of a player for a certain position who is on his list, but also on another clubs, along with Carvelho. The other club has more resources so could pretty much take their pick. So TP makes a big thing of Carvalho, in turn making the other club go in for him early, leaving the field open for TP to get the player he really wanted in the first place
I know just wishful thinking.
