It was poor by our usual standards of keeping possession and pressing the opposition when we didn't have the ball. Then again we were minutes away from the perfect away performance, grab a goal on the break, sit back into a defensive formation and frustrate the hell out of the Derby team.

My only complaint is that we gave the ball away too easily.

It was frustrating in the stands amongst the 1245 travellers which was suprisingly low for this stage of the season ( sky and work tomorrow I accept) and the Derby (almost as massive as Wendy) fans let us know what they thought to the empty seats.
VLP once again offered very little, cant wait for Scanz, who may well be in his last half a dozen games for Town, to get up to speed to give him some serious contention for that wide play shirt. Lolley who looks just too lightweight for this level of the Champs, another we might see move on, did his defensive duties well but he is struggling to find any form in his bit part appearances.
Deano, perhaps the clock is ticking for him age wise too struggles with 90 mins at this level and his distribution is questionable, so agreeing with much that has been said we didnt play well enough to dominate nor threaten them more than the 1st goal which Super Col stuck away well, he then continued to look lively for the 1st half and adapted to change roles when Wells was introduced.
The atmosphere was really quiet amongst the local sheep a real end of season affair for them, but Buttercups introduction along with Johnny Russell gave them another kind of threat. With having dropped deeper and deeper it was a risky tactic to try manage out the full 90 mins and we were nailed on to cock up once the singers at the back started the coming for you song which the locals found hilarious.
So 3 points wasnt to be, nor did we in truth merit it, we can now concentrate on the play off jostling, beating Fulham might aid Leeds on Saturday, but Burton will fancy their chances in their current form so thats not a given.
Mooy was strangely quiet, I dont think he has 2 games in 4 days at his high level maybe because Hoggy only had 10-15 mins he operates differently and Deano doesnt offer the same level of protection or options to give and go.
Enjoyed Wagner's honest post match interview which appeased me somewhat, it wasnt a Bristol or Forest capitulation and was in some ways a practice run for an away first leg tie where we want to frustrate and play on the break.

Yes Lolley was quiet in the first half but I thought he was excellent first half and we defended resolutely. If it wasn't a very fortunate deflection we'd all be sat here saying 'those are the games you show bottle to win'. Yes we didn't win it in the end but it was still a good performance.
I think most of the comments tell you on here that most Town fans thought it was poor.
Even if we had won, it was still poor from us. Lost the ball far too quickly, no threat on the break, and even our best players didn't play well. If you call that having a game plan executed well, then maybe you should watch a Wigan or Blackburn....not a team still challenging for an automatic place.
We were not good at all....you say only VLP had a bad game....tosh.
Where was Mooy? Or Hogg? Lolley again far too lightweight. Our only players deserving a mention were Quaner, Hefele and Schindler. All 3 played well.
If we had won, you would not have heard me say we showed bottle...you would have heard me say we got away with one there.
This happens to every team in the world. You will not always play well...some of the bad games you will win...some you will lose. I think the honest answer, and I think Wagner does say this, is that we didn't play well, let's move on from it and regroup and come back stronger.

I think wagner said we managed the game well and tried something different after two very poor away fixtures and this tactic was to see if we could do it against a better team ahead of the playoffs

Sitting on a 1-0 lead for 80 minutes against a side that had nothing to play for (and for the most part played like it) wasn't the greatest thing to do when another 3 points were there for the taking. We didn't need to go gung ho but we could have done a good bit more than we did. Anyway, it looks like Izzy is back in training, and may have played a couple of times for Chelski at some level or another, so another option to have a go in the last few games and secure our play-off spot.

Derby were poor. If our plan was to hit them on the break, it was never gonna work cos Rowett teams don't commit that far forward. His Birmingham team were hard to beat because of this as opposed to the easy push over they have become.

We'll agree to disagree. We weren't scintillating but I thought by no means were we poor. Derby are a good team and threatened several times. They'll be a force next season under Rowett make no bones about it.
