This week see us welcome one of the many teams in the Championship from North Manchester!! PNE were the very first winners of the Football League back in 1888-89, a feat they repeated the following year and then followed that up by finishing runners-up for the next 3 seasons.  Unfortunately for them, they haven't won it since, so their league championship drought is even longer than ours is!!

Preston were arguably the surprise team last season, after a slow start they gained some consistency and at one point towards the end of the season we looking like rivals for that final playoff place, only to drop out over the last part of the season.  In the end they finished in a credible 11th place, not bad for a promoted side and easily the best of the three that did come up.  This season they started slowly, losing 5 of their first 6 games but have since been much better and currently sit in 12th, but only 3 points behind us!!

This will be the 105th meeting between us with an even record of W40 D23 L41. Our overall home record is very good against them but the last 10 home games have us at W4 D1 L5, although we have won 3 of the last 5.  Need to even out that home record by winning this one!!

Last season we won this fixture fairly easily 3-1, but from memory it wasn't an inspiring performance but was one of thise that started to see us develop some consistency and rise up the table.  Goals from Lee, Pudil and a chap called McGugan got the goals foe us.




THE LAST MATCH

A ground where we never do well turned out to be a ground where we won the game early and at a canter!!!!!  Good to see Forestieri score again and good to see Joao back and playing well.
