Amid demands (and alleged suspicious electoral activities) for a recount in the state of Wisconsin, and poss other US states like Pennsylvania, the question arises: 'Is the US electoral system a disaster for democracy'? I'd say it's a resounding YES and I'll bet there are millions n millions of baffled/irritated American voters who concur with that view as well!!

The plot thickens even further as Trump's 'conflicts of interest' are closely scrutinised. I must say I questioned Trump's suitability as a presidential candidate from the start of this US election fiasco. It's good to see it being questioned but I think he should've been challenged long before now and the empowering authority was the Republican Party itself or poss the US equivalent of the Electoral Commission.

It's good to see Prof Stephen Hawking's criticisms of the Trump US election and the brexit fiasco. Collaboration the key word being uttered and not isolationism in this past year of 'dark politics'. I certainly regard Trump, the 'wealth creator' at all cost, as being very dangerous to the well being of our planet and definitely not wanted from a purely environmental perspective. The same goes for the UK's eventual isolation from Europe but that's only one reason of many that tell me that Brexit is utter folly that should be blocked at all cost!!

I get your 'drift' but I think you'll discover that by voting to take the Brexit route, there is an element of isolationism attached to it whether you like it or not and that's what the extreme factions of Brexit campaigners (the union jack brigade and others!) want - they've preached about it often enough in the summer!! The insular and isolationist approach as opposed to an outward and internationalist and shared approach to dealing with European affairs, trying to improve things from within the Euro market and collaboration as a serious trading partner. Sure, the UK is gonna have some form of trade agreement, no doubt, but we're gonna 'pay for that utter folly' and we'll deserve it due to part of our voting population (not a Scottish vote by the way and so much for 'better together'!) being stupidly led and then duped into ever getting near a 'leave' vote!! I call it 'dark politics' that ties in nicely with the US election fiasco - an appropriate name for the politics of 2016 and one good reason why I'll be happy to see the end of this black year when it comes to the politics associated with it!! Then we move to the year 2017 - for many, incl Prof Hawking, it will be the 'year of trepidation' as these 'dark politics' possibly come to the fore in certain countries or hopefully they are 'brought to heel' and some form of stability and common sense finally prevails!!!

This is the latest 'twist' in the US election fiasco where the CIA has uncovered Russian interference to influence the election in favour of Donald Trump and the fact that the FBI supposedly 'covered it up'!!! I commented in a previous thread that I found the FBI's late involvement re Clinton's e-comms, during a crucial period of electioneering, was 'highly questionable' and it surprised me that no higher authority had made a 'bigger deal' out of such a conveniently timed political interference. I don't think this fiasco is over even though Trump and his associates are already trying to 'play it down'!! Also noticeable that President Obama looks like he's gonna call for a formal investigation into these events/shenanigans and quite right too - this whole farce reeks of huge intrigue and suspicion that has never quite 'disappeared into the long grass'!!

I'm not sure what that even means mate. Its the conditions of this future trade that is going to cause the problems to the UK economy. An economy that has already dropped 20% off its currency and is based in a society more divided and unequal than ever.

English exceptionalism is going to hit the brick wall of the reality of negotiations with a far more powerful neighbour and brexit pipe dreams will come to nothing.Total ignorance of the fact that other european states have their politics too and that will come before a cosy deal for the UK. Don't expect pragmatism from the kind of numb nuts we have guiding the ship at the moment either when it becomes clear we are in bother. They are tied to the right wing ideals of a red white and blue brexit and will cling to that until it does not provide them with the opportunity of power any more. Just like the tories did with austerity politics.

Brexit will do nothing to combat globalisation,low wages or immigration numbers - if you don't believe me look at what may,boris and gove have all said privately on the subject..... so once again i find myself asking "whats the point"?
