It is too early to say that Ideye will never be a £10 million striker. He is currently lacking match sharpness which comes with consecutive starts and/or plenty of minutes on the pitch which he hasn't had since the Swansea and Everton matches. He has also came from a different league so he needs some time to adjust.

He now has his wife and children with him (or he will soon) so that should make him feel more settled and after another 2-4 matches with proper minutes on the pitch, he will come good.

I think you're right Josh.

We will have to see if he matches his 10 million Pound price tag,

But far to early to right the guy off, he has hardly had any first team action.

Gamboa for Dorrans for me and that would have been the perfect team yesterday,

I know you say Gamboa isn't a right midfielder Josh but surely a footballer can adapt, especially if he has Wisdom behind him, they could work nicely together one bombs forward the other can cover,

Would improve our right side loads IMO Thumb up

Disappointed about how we were hanging on a little against 10 men , why do we always seem to try our best to throw it all away,

Maybe this time it was just the sheer desperation for 3 points at home and nervousness began to creep in.

Some class trickery from Varela Thumb up

I love the OLD FASHIONED air of excitement around the ground when the ball gets to Varela - that sense of anticipation from the crowd is something we haven't had for a long, long time.
Willie Johnson and Laurie Cunningham spring to mind - I'm sure we've had it since them but I can't think of any/many?

But THAT'S what we need! Excitement, entertainment.... oh, AND a regular supply of 3 points please, Father Christmas Hohoho

Both Ideye and Varela will come good with proper first team football. Varela has shown what he can bring and he will become even better with more match sharpness. Ideye may not have shown much in front of goal yesterday but his movement off the ball and positioning was good.

Gamboa isn't a right midfielder but he could probably adapt and do a good job out there. I would rather see Sessegnon or Blanco there instead but Gamboa is a good option to offer pace in attack and cover for Wisdom in defence.

I think we ended up hanging on due to the players not following instructions. Irvine was signalling for them to push higher up but they instead kept dropping back which I think is due to their confidence levels. If they were fully confident they would have stayed higher up the pitch and pressured Villa but due to them being low on confidence, which happens after only gaining 1 point from 5 matches, they found it best to just drop back and try to hang on.

Drewks, Varela gives us exactly what we have been missing for the past few years. Jerome Thomas used to give us good width and pace but Hodgson changed him and his impact in the attacking sense reduced. Get Varela fully match fit and sharp and he will give us so much.

The final piece of the puzzle is getting our Argentinian munchkin fit and firing.

Ishmael Miller was one! For all too brief a period though unfortunately.

I'd like him to get a chance on the right and Sess central, drop Dorrans.

Watched this in the pub, I've read all the comments and they pretty much sum it up - great 3 points but the performance was not as good as it should have been, especially considering it was at home to 10 men.

Think we need to drop Dorrans for either Berahino or Blanco, possibly get Gamboa in for Wisdom at some point and eventually we will need Mulumbu in for Mozza because we have no defensive mids.

GMac and Varela have taken their chances and are now first team starters, massive improvement on Dawson and Brunt. Ideye I think will come good but needs to keep starting and needs more service.

Though the ball was slightly behind him to do much with.

Do you all realise that without that 1-0 win, we'd be now 18th in the league, so our beating 10 men was fortunate Big Grin

WHOSE GOING TO DELETE THIS? Wink

About Ideye, he clearly has a bit about him and his pace and strength is ok, he's decent enough with the ball but doesn't really look like scoring. Hopefully that's just him getting up to speed and his confidence (and us not creating masses) and he'll be a good scorer soon as he has at some of his other clubs.

He's definitely not a lost cause but I'd probably put him 3rd choice for now.

I did think the team looked more exciting to watch, and I feel Brunt out the team was good, and Dorrans had a 4/10 game, and should have scored, or had a go at goal when well placed, lacking in confidence in front of.

I hope they all start to have a go at getting a goal, pot shots, cause that's better than seeing nothing at all.

Good result yesterday - though not overly impressed to be honest.
