So Bristol City did go for Ex-Chesterfield. DEAN HOLDEN.
Well. You can't beat being in the right place.

I note my rank outside tip to be leading scorer in League Two - Ricky German - has at least got the No 9 shirt. Unfortunately he didn't make the starting eleven, but they were so poor they brought him on at half time. Didn't make any difference. They lost 2-0. He is obviously their most photogenic player judging from the report on their website, and despite the opinion of Chesterfield fans, the last thing he looks is fat.
I still stick be my opinion of Ricky, if you want him to score then start him. He'll never be a great sub'. If he isn't good enough to start then ditch him..

Ricky started in his No9 shirt for Crawley. 1-0 win, but he didn't score it and got subbed off in the 68th minute.

Len Badger and Eric Winstanley both dead. Good players and chaps both.
Looks like Chesterfield are on a James Rowe recruitment drive in the After-Life League. En route to a decent back four! They weren't that much older than me. Cripes!

Hope you all noticed Paul McGinn came on for his first Scottish international cap at the age of 30 in the World Cup Qualifier against Austria.
Seemed like a sound full back at Chesterfield, so naturally we let him go, or pushed him out of the door as totally unwanted. One of the many big mistakes that landed us where we are now. Good luck to him. Years ago he and Andy Robertson played in the same Queens Park team. That must have seemed like an unlikely road to anywhere.

Leam Richardson working wonders at Wigan where as Paul Cook is struggling at Ipswich.

Bet Ipswich finish above Wigan despite Tendayi's efforts.

That's one I definitely wouldn't put money on Dev. Cooke is already on borrowed time.
Big Bore Exhaust = Small Dick
Ipswich won't need to get very high to finish above Wigan ...... whoever their manager.
By the way Cook did sign 19 new players over the summmmmer, that's nnnnnnn ineteen. You could expect a slow start. If he's gets sacked because of it I'm guessing his successor will find the nucleus of a nice little team ready to go.
Gary Caldwell Update:
FORMER Scotland captain Gary Caldwell has been appointed Loans Coach at Manchester City after his interim spell as Newcastle United’s Under-23s boss ended. The ex-Wigan, Chesterfield and Partick Thistle manager joined the Magpies on a short-term basis last month while an external recruitment process took place to find a permanent replacement for Chris Hogg. That appointment has not yet been made. Caldwell, who was an Academy player at Newcastle between 1997 and 2001, last week tweeted: “Enjoyed immensely being back on the grass coaching at the club that gave me my start in football. Thank you to all the players and staff for making me feel so welcome.” Joleon Lescott, who had been City’s Loans Manager for the last four years, has now left the club to become assistant (along with Ashley Cole) to Lee Carsley with England U21s. (A few rash tackles on the cards there then!) Gareth Whalley is City’s other Loans Coach - a role he has held for a decade. (Gary the baby cuckoo will soon edge him out of the nest.) Gary Caldwell spent only 3 WEEKS at Newcastle with their U-23s. Recently the Newcastle U-23 squad was involved in a public brawl with friends of former keeper Steve Harper's son, so obviously they gained something under Gary's fatherly influence. You may remember what a success Gary's loans were for Chesterfield, helping us to head straight out of the league! Possibly we might be able to tap him up for a couple of bright young things before he distributes them around the far-flung corners of Europe to learn football systems they'll find far too difficult to understand. After all he couldn't teach us how to play with a back three and everyone else seems to have managed it. |
