Couldn't stop myself mentioning George Hirst .......... second tier in Belgium ha ha? OH Leuven are owned by King Power ....... and now George has miraculously gone to Leicester.

So the Owls have effectively been nest-robbed by Leicester. David Hirst took the blame in the fans' eyes ....... but simply losing a centre forward capped at FOUR successive age group levels looks like a piece of carelessness even Chesterfield would have been proud of. Surely the whole sorry saga was Chansiri's fault wasn't it? Daren't look at the Wednesday Board in case I accidentally or ignorantly say something out of place. All I can say is their fans deserve better than having such a promising youngster first frozen out then allowed to jump ship. It must have soured their entire youth set-up. (If your lad were a schoolboy star centre forward ..... would you send him to Wednesday, or Chesterfield for that matter? We seem full steam ahead into a Blunt relationship now they are using our ground.)

Let's do a Team of the Week ......

Cairns (Fleetwood)

Wiseman (Salford)
Cooper (Leeds)
Hird (Barrow)
Binnom-Williams (Halifax) - MOM

Clay (Orient)
Clucas (Stoke) - scored
McFadzean (Plymouth) - scored two

Ajose (Exeter)
Dieseruvwe (Salford) - scored two
Gnanduillet (Blackpool) - scored

I just thought I'd add the excerpt from the Hemel Hempstead FC website:-

"t was a short reprieve however as Hemel continued to push forward and another flick from Midson was taken on by Ricardo German who rounded the keeper to make it 2 – 1 just two minutes after Hungerford’s equaliser. German, who was causing all sorts of problems then hit the post with a great turn and shot and the Tudors had some more near misses before the interval, including a shot come cross by Nash that hit a defender and looped over the keeper towards the goal, it was cleared just before it crossed the line.

The excellent German didn’t come out for the second half"

That was his first game on loan for a new team. He clearly made an impression. Do you think he just doesn't like training and ONLY looks good in matches? We ditched him, Crawley barely gave him a look before loaning him out for a season ....... BUT the guy he was battling it out with at the top of the scoring charts when at Hendon, Brandon Goodship from Weymouth, was straight into Southend's team for the full game in Division One. Something about Ricky clearly doesn't add up.

Eoin Doyle who was sent on loan to Swindon at the start of the season has been recalled back by Bradford after he scored 23 goals in 22 games for Swindon.

Think he scored something like 11 goals in 40 games for Bradford last season that was in a relegation battle.

He's played for 6 different teams since he left Chesterfield.

Noticed Halifax released Jerome Binnom-Williams.

Is that Palace, Chesterfield and Halifax all let him go. He's had more releases than Englebert Humperdinck.

Shame, I'm sure there's good player in there struggling to get out. It would be fascinating to study what happens to young players who get as far as youth international caps and then they lose the ability to deliver onfield. It seems highly unlikely to me they regress in terms of skill ....... they can still play ....... but they don't ...... they make bad decisions on the field and off it. A confident fearless youngster suddenly becomes a fallible mistake-ridden man, it has to be inside the mind. AND they must be aware of that fact and be desperately attempting to cover it up.

I reckon he'll join a club down South.

So do I, but I'd still love to know how he and so many others reach a level at which it seems they are the verge of a successful career AND THEN not only aren't they good enough for the Premier League, they can't keep up with the journeymen at Chesterfield and Halifax. The wastage of Juniors who are released when they contracts are going to be awarded is ridiculously high, but even those who clear that first hurdle are in imminent danger of career-ending disappointment when the second hurdle looms. You'd think this selectiveness would make us the best, but a number of our young players are choosing to do a Jadon Sancho and leave our most successful clubs to travel abroad to further their careers.

And when you look, for sure we have produced some nice young players, but the only decent English goalkeeper was rejected by Ipswich and had almost given up on himself when plucked from the Non-League football that developed him. AND our apparent England No1 cannot do things which decent Sunday League keepers 45 years ago would have treated as routine. So for all we are doing right we must be doing a lot wrong. And there are JBWs scattered across the Non-League game.

I think it's because too many young players if or when they reach a Premier League club think that they've made it and a lot don't work hard enough as they think that now they've made it then they'll just walk straight into the first team. Look at Jamie Vardy he was released by Sheffield Wednesday at 16 and he went to Stocksbridge Park Steels and he went from the reserve team into the first team and worked hard and from there he went to FC Halifax, Fleetwood Town and Leicester City, winning the Premier League, playing in Europe and playing for England. It's the ultimate underdog story.

If you work hard enough, apply yourself and show willing and determination then you'll succeed and that goes for anything.

I'm sure there ARE some slackers, but if that were the explanation, you should see plenty of Premier-ish standard players working like crazy at clubs like Chesterfield to get back to the standard they thought was in their grasp. If it is just motivation and hard work they were lacking the kick-up-the-arse of the Proact should sometimes see their quality shining back through. It very occasionally does happen, but it is really rare. More often they are like Reckford who Solihull have released. Now no-one could call him a non-trier, he bombs up and down the wing, but he was a youth international, heading for a top class career. Now he's late twenties, once managed a decent season in Scotland, was okay for Solihull ....... it's not exactly the stars.

I suspect it has more to do with mental strength and the ability to think on your feet. JBW makes bad decisions for a defender, and he continues to do it. I think he expects to cfku up and if that's in your head, it pretty soon happens. At some point they were lads who got it right and they turned into fallible men and couldn't handle it.

Is Cookie heading South West to Bristol?

He usually has a destination sorted when he departs ........ like Portsmouth when we were just qualifying for the play-offs ........

They have money, ambition and unusually for him a good youth set-up at Bristol City. So long as he doesn't start loaning players to Lee Johnson's dad I hope he does well .... if they opt for an English manager. But I have a feeling they might look at the continent.

If I were them I'd grab the Cowley boys. I fear Huddersfield have made a big mistake. A bit of patience was all that was required. They needed to re-build and they done the most important thing, survived the first season back in the Championship. Hope the new man at Huddersfield has learnt everything he knows from Bielsa.
