Trump v Clinton arrives at a decisive moment?

Hillary was a bad candidate but what  does that make a moron like Trump???? That's where the paradox arises re how on earth this highly questionable candidate ever got near the presidency at all??? IMO the finger-pointing is directed at the Republican Party itself as it has become clear this man was never a republican at all and had no great association with the party as well as not having any political credibility or reputation whatsoever. Also the press/media have a lot to answer for when one considers that their backing was dominated towards Clinton - what a screw up of gargantuan size!! And of course, as you have previously mentioned, what a screw up by the Democratic Party, in not so much backing Clinton but not engaging properly with the voters who mattered most in swinging this election in Trump's direction - a massive error and one that so easily could have been avoided v this horrible type of vicious opponent with so many 'skeletons in the cupboard' - absolutely bizarre but so embarrassing and sickening for millions n millions of decent American voters who wouldn't have 'touched Trump with a barge pole'!!! Thumb down

You are spot on, it really is a perfect storm of mistakes or non-action that sees us today with him as the upcoming President!!! I remember watching the primaries when the Republicans were choosing their candidate and thinking it would be entertaining with Trump in there to shake up this old fashioned, out of touch party, and I wasn't wrong!! One by one he simply trashed hs opponents with innuendo, lies and some truths, his onslaught would simply not have happened with any regular politician, they have too much to lose, but equally these 15 other normal politicians couldn't survive his onslaught and what he was saying!! The TV companies have suggested that due to his "celebrity" and uniqueness as a candidate, through this campaign he has essentially got about $1 billion of free airtime becuase he was Donal Trump!!

It also looks like Mitt Romney will be given a prominent position by Trump - going by recent tv footage of an amicable meeting with the president elect and his team of officials. Now reflect back to the lotsa tv footage of Romney's criticisms and condemnation of Trump being nothing other than a con man. Romney was a man with conviction who would never have had any association with such a questionable character or so we thought - he conveyed that view to his supporters often enough!!! Now we have observed a massive compromise by a guy who has debased his true values IMO and I wonder how many decent Americans are cringing at this sight of Romney's concession to this demagogue??? I'd normally come out with the 'shameless politician' tag, such as I've observed and described some moronic UK politicians during and after Scottish referendum 2014, but I'm just subdued in utter shock at watching such a debasement of a human being by a power freak!

0762, I get your point and I expect to see more Trump critical Republicans taking posts in his administration but there is also the view that some of these guys feel if you want to control Trump then put yourself in a position of influence rather than on the outside. In some ways it's not much different to Obama appointing Hillary Secretary of State after their bitter Democratic nomination campaign. At least they agreed on a lot of policies but they said some bad things about each other.

You would have thought they would still be embarrassed about putting Sarah Palin up as their poster child when the Tea Party was the latest fad for right wing Republicans!!!!! But they still hold here up as an example of everything that is great about that wing of the party, and now she is joined by the likes of Ted Cruz, Newt Gingrich and almighty Donald!!! But at least all of these guys are fairly educated, its scary when you go into the Republican homelands down south and see what their average supporter is really like and what they truly believe!!!! Racism is a very small part of it, the other shit they come up with is scary, and of course the Bible is used as their beating stick whenever they get challenged, it is after all God's will!!! DohDoh

Try to view a video rerun of a bbc prog, 'Frankie Boyle's American Autopsy' which was performed in front of a predominantly American audience. Frankie, in his usual humorous extreme way, tears strips off Trump and the bizarre voting intentions of many Americans. As one member of the audience commented - we have a habit of electing very bad presidents and we never learn from it! One of his propositions was - 'Anyone in the audience would be a better president than Donald Trump' followed by 'America hates women' - hilarious debates followed by agree and disagree votes from the audience.

Just look at Green Days music number that they played at last night's Music Awards event - NO KKK, NO FASCISTS, NO TRUMP...... Brilliant!! And good Americans keep on 'stoking it up' and not wanting these kinda awful antagonistic people anywhere near governing their country, let alone having some negative impact on a global scale. Do Americans finally have to revolt to reverse a wrong that has been declared a right by the 'democracy do gooders'?? It was a democratic result and the old righteous line that suits the triumphant right wing backers (and other extreme ones too!) - lets abide by the democratic will of the people dohhhhhh!!! I wonder Rolleyes

Re President Obama, is this latest news a case of Obama 'keeping his powder dry' until the appropriate moment. I'd expect and hope that Obama sticks to his convictions and strong ethical values and will respond at some point as a US citizen because I don't expect Trump to fail in delivering many of his extreme RW authoritarian policies that have alarmed many American voters as well as other observers world wide.
