Wading in anyones blood is really not on, there's enough bloodshed in this world without singing about it at a football game.

I dont actually know the words to any of the songs... strike that; filth that is sung by any of the sides, and have never, ever wanted to sing them or hear them. A % of football fans, especially in the central belt, and even more so on the west of the belt have bigotry drummed into them from birth by both parents and peers. Is it any wonder that they end up the way they do. 10% of Hearts full crowd would be 2k; 10 % of an old firlm side nearer 5/6k. I'd say the condition is worse in the old firm so you could have a hard core of 8k that will sing it every week, and probably another few k that will get wrapped up in the occasion and join in.
As society as a whole is still divided on religion, then it is something that, although reducing, is not going to go away overnight alas. I wish it would, but if you look to Russia as an example, who have few Negro's in their population, their fans hatred of black people seems to as bad as our religeous problems here. These are some of the things that put me off football, but I live in hope it will leave the game before I go for good.

I think you'll find that the world would me a much better place if people only sang about it at football matches - it's what happens away from football that's the real problem.

When war is replaced by sport and screams are replaced by people singing daft songs about historic victories it might be worthwhile trying to change the songs.  Songs are scar tissue, it's the wounds that need fixing.

People will always find something to differentiate their group from the other group, Struth. Always.

If a society if racially homogenous - they'll argue about religion or politics.

If religiously homogenous then they'll stratify by skin tone, or eye shape, or hair type.

There will always be something and if you can distill the greater difference in society into sporting rivalry rather than murder on the street, for me any way, that's not such a bad thing.
