I entered into Google 'Footballers born in Stockton on Tees' and Derek Hogg's name came up of course, but before I could check out his club history, I got stuck into his life story after he stopped playing football! Oh, and there are quite a few players who were born in Stockton, too. And I lived there for five years and I know the area quite well, so no excuses! Good question and good spot, Silver and Ska'd!

Chaps, I only started supporting Albion in September 1966! But here goes. 1963 was in the era of Typhoo Tea team photographs and the 2-3-5 formation, and midfielders were included in the five, so 1. could be Bomber Brown or Bobby Hope, 2. is definitely Ken Foggo, 3. is Chippy Clark, as DD says, 5. this chap really is obscure, a wing half according to my internet search, and I can only say his surname begins with B and is also an area of Bilston, where he comes from. Am I right? 4. again, I had to Google this one. Are his initials AJ?

You are nearly there Aries.
You've got four correct.
Clive(Chippy)Clark, Tony(Bomber)Brown, Alec Jackson and well done with Ken Foggo.
But who was the fifth tiny tot playing that day?
He made 30+ league appearances that season scoring 8 goals. He wore shirts 8, 9 & 10 during the season.
One more obscure clue:- he shares a surname with a pop star of the 60's era. The pop star later changed his stage names and had a number of hit singles.

Ronnie Fenton? who went on to become a decent coach (was it with Cloughie?)
He was 5'9" and used to play in that era. I've still got a star-badge of him.
In those days height was quite important. Every team had at least one 6-footer upfront, but we never replaced Tank and Keith Smith.
We rejoiced when we bought Yorkie in the close season. Ron F was decent, but we had been spoilt for years with great centre forwards (and "No.10s").
Bizarrely a year or 2 later, Hagan brought in Ray Crawford along with Kaye and Astle; and Crawford, who broke all Ipswich goalscoring records, couldn't get a look in.
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

Well done talksaft.
Ron Fenton was the player and his famous namesake was William Jewry:-
aka Shane Fenton:-
aka Alvin Stardust.
OK another change of tack:-
Substitutes were first permitted in the 65/66 season supposedly for injuries only.
1) Who was the first player to be used as a substitute for the Baggies. Who did he replace.
2) Who was the Baggies most used substitute; coming off the bench in almost 70 matches over a five year period.

I was thinking Alvin Stardust for some reason, but I couldn't think of anyone else called Stardust who's played for Albion.
I was thinking Dennis Clarke for this latest devilish question, but it's not him. He was the first sub to be used in an FA Cup final and he was only 20. And he's from Stockton on Tees.

Very true Aries although, at the moment we seem to be in danger of having some dusty stars (Berahino & Poco not even on the bench again).
No the first sub used by Albion was not Clarke.
It may (or not) help if I tell you that the player concerned was also the first sub used by us in a FA Cup game.
And the player he replaced in the Cup game was the first sub used in a League Cup game some 3 years later.
Any ideas on who the 'super-sub' was?

Albion's first ever substitute was Graham Lovett.
Here's an interesting one; only seven Albion players have ever scored more than one own-goal in their time at the club. Can you name them?
