Scottish League Cup Semi-Final, 01/02/2015 : Rangers 0-2 Celtic

When you're right in amongst it and witnessing it over a period of time, you'll soon realise that there are plenty refs that are simply univerrsally incompetent. You'll also be aware of the select few that are as close to blatant in their negativity towards your team as it's possible to be.

Next you'll be saying that "these things even themselves out over the season" when in reality there's never been any evidence to support such a statement.

I have seen you guys, the Celtic boys, Tynie, Maroon and Fred all complain about the same refs, including Thompson!!! I reckon it's just that they are shite more than anything else!!

I think are jus fallible.

If a player misses an open goal then he's "hopeless/ shite/ unlucky" etc. If a ref disallows a goal by mistake then he's a "hun/Tim/cheat" etc.

They can't win.

They make a rod for their own backs a lot of the time. I'm not saying they've been trying to influence a match one way or another, but in the last few years I've seen countless matches where it's like the ref has been working to two different rulebooks when making calls on challenges by us and by our opposition. It's as if they think 'well, they're only a semi-pro team so they can get away with those reckless lunges since it's what you'd expect, but Rangers players should know better so I'll pick them up on every hint of an infringement'. Then there are those who are all too obviously influenced by the crowds. That's probably a lot less applicable at Ibrox and Celtic Park these days of course with both grounds being half empty for most matches, but it's still a failing of some refs.

As I said, they are jut human - rather than acting out of malice.

Anyone got a preference for a starting XI for the match? I'm so disheartened by our performances in recent months I can't really see that it makes much difference, but I suppose some picks would be worse than others.

Some would say it has to be 4-5-1 but I think the teams that take points off Celtic in the league this season will have done so with 2 or 3 up front. Besides, I'm not sure we have the personnel up front for 4-5-1. Miller doesn't have the legs to make a success of it and Daly just becomes a statue isolated from any of his team mates.

My feeling is that Celtic's fullbacks will push on and they'll have a midfielder drop deep to cover so they'll almost play 3-5-2 at times, so we should go 4-3-3 to take advantage with Daly spearheading an attack flanked by Miller and Clark. Our defence will be Wallace, McCulloch, McGregor and probably Foster though Faure deserves a chance, leaving Hutton, Black and Law for midfield, which I think could actually work.

In reality it'll more likely be that 4-5-1 with Smith and Aird on the wings and Miller up front to begin with. With Macleod I could have seen us unlocking them and creating chances, but I just don't know what threat we can offer at the moment.

We'll have to at least match them numerically in midfield. If we leave ourselves short in there they'll run all over us.

When you look at the individual match ups, it's possible to see equality in most of them, a lot will depend on how we cover Commons dropping deep and Johansen bursting through from midfield.

Not looking forward to this game at all. I've not missed the sheer hatred at all over the past three years or so, and I'm far from keen to see it renewed tomorrow.

Well, I called the right line up but that's mostly because we don't really have many other options.

Simonsen; Wallace, McCulloch, McGregor, Foster; Smith, Law, Hutton, Black, Aird; Miller.

How I long for the days when we had to make decisions between the likes of De Boer, Caniggia and Arveladze. Albertz, McCann or Tugay? Bah!
