Not saying he is a miss and should be with us but......
I think after the Rodriguez deal, we're probably done on the striker front unless Rondon goes (which will probably happen on deadline day).
Never seen Mounie play, but younger and cheaper than Rodriguez without the injury record. Really hope we haven't made a ridiculous decision here, especially as I can see Rondon going last minute and us needing everyone fit like last season.
Jeez Slick, I hope we're not done on the striker front. Even his most ardent fan would not say Rondon is the finished article. Personally I think Robson-Kanu is not much better than League I standard and even assuming you can get a full season from Rodriguez, he is more of an attacking midfielder.
I want and would expect at least one more striker.
If it were not for the goals coming from defenders in particular we would have been in trouble last season.
Oh, you don't have to tell me. I'm in full agreement.
I have visions of Rodriguez being either on the treatment table all season or sh*t (honestly thought he'd lost all his pace when I saw him last season).
So I agree we need 4 strikers. But I'm telling you what I think will happen. I have zero faith in our board. I don't think they will sign another striker.
This is, after all, the same board who left us with only Rondon and HRK for half a season last year. In their mind, we already have an extra body in that department. We're in the same position, squad wise, with what was deemed good enough at the start of last season.
We need a centre half (or 2), a left back, a midfielder and another striker. But will this board really sanction 5 more signings after already spending £12m?
So I agree, i'd want another striker too, but I don't share your expectation and optimism.
In fact, being the complete pessimist, I think they will sell Rondon on deadline day and not replace him. They did this with Saido in January, a leopard doesn't change his spots.
I hope I'm all wrong though.

According to @JoseCriadoOpi, Wolfsburg look set to land Ignacio Camacho from Malaga for just €13m. He was a target for #WBA last summer.

Personally I'm glad we aren't wasting money left, right and centre. A big transfer fee doesn't guarantee the player is going to perform.
Camacho wise I think he may just not have fancied the hussle and bussle of English football - Borja Valero never really clicked for us during his stint and then went on to be capped for Spain, whilst playing for Villareal and then Fiorentina so can't be that bad a player! Just wasn't suited to the football over here.
I think we're being as a fan base in general a little bit more pessimistic than we should be to be honest, and it's grinding me down. We obviously need players in but we need to be mindful of how good the current crop are imo. The few I'd single out for the most praise are:
Ben Foster - Absolute class, very lucky he's with us and a relatively local lad clearly happy to stick with us.
Jonny Evans - Bewildering that he was allowed to leave Man U in the first place. Will do well to keep him.
Jake Livermore - Hugely underated and isn't in the England side regularly of late for no reason.
Matty Phillips - During the first half of last season statistically one of the most potent forwards in Europe, sadly injury ended his season earlier than we'd of liked!
Gareth McAuley - Best free transfer since Bosman's began in my opinion. Magnificent player
And not to forger the rest of the squad as I think the likes of Morrison and Brunt etc have been great servants to the club and still offer us something.
Sorry this is a little off topic - just a perspective on the transfer scenario at the minute from me! Personally I think windows need to be scrapped as it adds nothing to the game, what's the point of them??

Sir Megson, the January 'Window' does prevent wealthier clubs of unfairly buying their way out of trouble if they find themselves at the lower end of the Premiership league table condemning less wealthy clubs, who were unable to compete, to Premiership oblivion.

Well there we have a classic example of our transfer policy. We were offered Lukaku from Chelsea, just a few of years ago for £18 million, which we baulked at. We force Chelsea to put him on the open market, allowing Everton to come through and pick him up. Now he is off to United for £75 million, how many of you thought Lakaku would never make the grade? not many I bet and if we could see it so easily, why couldn't the experts. No doubting he would still be on his way to United, but at least we would have had him for a couple of years and be over £50 million richer.

Clubs are allowed to discuss and agree terms when the windows aren't open though, it's movement and registration of players is what's affected by the transfer window. Therefore the discussions on transfers are generally close to these windows and it's a rare exception when players and clubs agree terms way in advance of the window opening. Agents know that's when the prices increase.
The issue I have with transfer windows is that by condensing the period of time that players are allowed to move, it creates an environment whereby any agent who knows what he is doing will tell his player to bide his time and wait for the best offer once clubs are desperate to do business towards the end of the window. This leads to bidding wars and predictably the club with the deepest pockets wins.
We've been guilty of a panic buy or two over the past few years because of this. Anichebe being the first that springs to mind. Deal was something in the region of £6m for a bloke that spent most of his time at the club crumbling like a biscuit that had been dunked for too long and he lived on our treatment table.
Everton must have been loffin all the way to the bank!

The problem is though Salop and I just want to add I agree with you BUT do you think Lukaku would still be valued at £75m if we had purchased him. I think not because of the way we attack under Pulis, he wouldn't have scored half as many goals as he did at Everton.
Yes he may have been worth more than £18m but not much and don't forget when we had him, we had Billy Jones and Mulumbu bursting into the box to create for him, sadly now we don't.

We are already in Pre season, its a joke, everyone else is getting deals done whilst we watch our "rumoured Targets" sign for other clubs.
its not even like they are going for astronomical prices either,
The TV money is there, get it spent and improve this squad of players, otherwise face going down!

Baggieman, you beat me to it, only thing I would add, stops the big boys when in trouble from raiding other clubs in similar positions for their talent to condemn the other club in their place. In the past teams like Newcastle, bigger fan base, bigger finances, bigger attraction, could raid clubs like Watford, stoke, us and decimate their survival chances. On the other hand it also stops smaller clubs with smaller squads buying replacements when injuries strike.
