Leigh Bromby has spoke on the situation. He says at the end of their contracts players get a month's wage as severence pay. So the out of contract players are now playing and just getting paid this severence pay or if you like, playing for nowt as they could walk out and still get that money.
Danny Simpson said he wanted paying for playing as well, which he agreed with Bromby. However Bromby then came back and told him that in the current state of affairs with non playing staff being furloughed, this would be unfair. Bromby says the timing was wrong, just before the Wigan match, but he believes the club were right not to pay him. ![]()

Well, you are either extending their contract or you aren't.
If you are extending a contract that typically ends on June 30th, even though the season nominally ends in May, even with Play-off games, to the end of July then you are by default extending the payments on that contract by a month too, unless some other agreement is reached, or have I missed something so bleeding obvious here that my nose is in the way? Town are expecting them to play in June for the contract money paid - fair do's if your contract runs another season or 3, but they then expect them who have a contract ending this June to extend this free gratis, nothing, nada, zero into July based on what Bromby is saying. I've no idea what this has to do with furloughed staff, they are not being asked to work at all. but unless you are volunteering, how many of us would work for nowt? I don't care what a footballers wage is and whether or not they can afford to work for nowt for a month. aA fair days pay for a fair days play is all he was asking. I don't blame any player for withdrawing his "loyalty" to the club if this is how they are all doing it, and that includes the lads a Charlton. Dress it up how you like, I think the clubs are the one's at fault here. Yes, they've a problem with no gate money coming in, but Town have banked most of their's on Season Tickets anyway. The number of walk-ups is minimal these days. The only payments they might not get will be from those that pay by credit card, assuming that agreement has not been changesd.

That's how i see it Theo, he's only asking for what he would normally get.
I get that people say he's been paid 3 months for doing nothing but that's not his fault, its not like he's been on holiday, he will have been training at home to a plan set out for him by the club in that time Like i said its a complete shitshow

And I mentioned more of the shit show on the match thread... What is wrong at the club. I'm getting the real impression that someone from our recent past who was held up on the highest rung of the ladder, has screwed us over

Funny you should say that jjames, a mate of mine and myself have been discussing that since about September and we both think he's been a bit naughty.

A bit?
I heard he could have sold it to a yank with a lot of money and a history of building community driven clubs. But he actually wanted to negotiate and conduct business. Ph didn't and was happy to go with whatever he was told to

Sad to see JGS go but i don't blame him, he's pretty much put his career on hold for the past 3 years.
I can't see us offering many out of contract players a new contract. Schofield and Duhaney yes, the rest no. Its the easiest way to get wages off the books and judging by the ATT meeting it looks like we are now up against it financially. Reduced parachute payments Covid19 testing costs(coming out of next years central payments) Reduced income from sponsorship, Season Card/Ticket sales. It looks more and more likely that we will be relying on the former academy lads to do a job for us next season. I suppose our previous owner could convert some of the debt into shares to help us out, but given he was wanting out how likely is that |
