I've seen you guys refer ot the need for summer football in Scotland before, what exactly do you mean by summer football? Are you proposing that the season starts in say June, has a winter break in Jan/Feb and goes on until May? If so, while I see the benefits, surely every two years that would see you playing games against a World Cup or Euro Championships, and imagine competing with those games on live tv!!!

Other countries get round it SCO. eg: Swedens start in March / April and finishes in November.....and lets face it they have been more of a force in these competitions than Scotland of late.
Yes it would take a lot of sorting but some new ideas need to be tried .
"FOREVER UNITED"
Yep. I'd match it up to the Tippelagaen or the Allsvenskan as suggested by exeter. It works for the norwegians and swedes. So why shouldn't it work for us?

I'm all for a proper winter break too. The season should be from April to December, hopefully building up to an exciting finish around Christmas. It's often mentioned that it would cost in lower attendances in the summer holidays, but that would only cover one or two home matches for each supporter. Evening matches in the summer would also be much better than in the winter. £15 would be an attractive price too, with possibly £20 for a top category game. Making the game more attractive for the regular supporter is a must, so let's get our thinking caps on.
Cabbage is still good for you

Initiating a seamless switch over would not be easy! One way to do it would be to possibly start the season as early as poss and somehow compress it to end early in prep for a revised full summer season.

This season for instance is the 2015-16 season, so the winners of all the cups etc would be technically the 2016 year winners. Therefore if you went to a summer league it would be 2017 calendar year when the next winners of competitions were decided, therefore a league that starts in March/April 2017?? I would imagine that you would take 2-3 seasons by making the league season a bit longer, maybe introducing a January/February break to stretch it out each year a bit more until you reach the new start and finish dates.

Yep Saint Charles Owl! I did say it wouldn't be easy but sacrifices would have to be made by the clubs and football authorities to gradually steer us towards the Scandinavian summer football model. As the saying goes - where there's a will, there's a way!

A lot of the top flight clubs boardrooms are a bit uneasy about summer football.

Also are any known to be in favor? I see the subject of expanding the top division has been raised again today. what are the thoughts on that idea?? |
