Back to the match on Friday....

That was as good an atmosphere as the Arsenal game which was the best at Hillsborough for years. When the North stand was bouncing in the second half and everyone had their phone lights on it was amazing. You could see the floodlight bouncing on the pitch! Thought we controlled the game apart from their early set pieces and a few bad passes late in the second half. Even with eleven men I thought we were on top.

Must be said I got carried away when Wallace scored as I'd convinced myself we'd been robbed for the disallowed goal. I'd got it in my head that Westwood had cleared the ball from a goal kick and therefore we couldn't have been offside. I was telling everyone around me and no one else could remember where the kick came from. I haven't seen the kick itself again but the consensus appears to be that it was the right decision so I've grudgingly had to get down off my high horse! Bah, humbug.

Still, what a night. Only hope that we can turn in another performance almost as good and we should be ok.

90 Minutes From Wembley

As expected, CC went back to the 442, leaving out Joao & bringing back Wallace. However, we started brightly although Bannan was marginalised for the opening quarter by being shoved on the left wing. FF had a goal disallowed correctly when he fired home brilliantly but was offside. Have to say how well the officials did to come to the correct decision in tricky circumstances.

Wallace fired in brilliantly after a clever Hooper pass to give us a deserved half time lead.

When Knockhaert went off injured, leaving us with a man advantage, we had the opportunity to win the tie but Brighton defended stoutly & we added just one more when FF's clever ball put Lee clear & he finished adroitly to tuck it inside the LH post.

We bombarded the Brighton goal but they restricted us to 2-0.

We certainly took advantage of Brighton from the start as they still seemed shell shocked from losing at Boro. We also took advantage of the injuries that took away their star players and left them with ten men for half an hour. We might have done better but then again, we might have done worse.

We have done probably 80% of the job & if we are professional then the other 20% should be straightforward.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
