T'other way around Steve;- Smith 2 The Tank 4
But a good result nevertheless. Can you imagine us scoring 6 goals in a game with our 'Tone' in charge?

Confession time. My first match was Villa v Chelsea some time in the mid 60's. In my defence I was raised in a family of Villa fans (sadly none of them left now we finally have bragging rights) but saw the light in around 67 as there was no way I was going to support the same team as my brother. Unfortunately I don't remember anything about the game....and I say unfortunately cos apparently Villa lost 2-6!

My first Match was Aston Villa v Rochdale, 28 August 1971 which Villa won 2-0. My friend's dad made us a bench to stand on so we could see the game in amongst an all standing crowd. Can't say I enjoyed it that much I remember playing tag with my friends because we thought it was boring. My first Albion game was against the Villa, 10 November 1976 a 1-1 draw with over 40,000 in the crowd at the Hawthorns.

Silverbaggie thanks for the correction, I had a feeling I got it wrong. As I recall, Johnny Haynes and Tony Macedo were playing for Fulham. The latter was a great goalkeeper who came from either Malta or Gibraltar as I recall
Steve I wonder whether you can remember whether Bobby Robson was playing for Fulham that day as I know he left us in 1962 to go back to the Club we bought him from. Such a shame and all because the Chairman wouldn't give him a pay rise even tho he was Club Captain and so we lost a truly great player for the sake of a few pounds.
Fast forward 55 years and nothing's changed.

April 1958 (I was 8). Walked to the ground from Handsworth with my brother and Dad. We beat Leicester 6-2 with Bobby Robson getting a hat-trick. The maqjestic Ray Barlow was playing centre-half, and we had Ronnie Allen, Stu Williams, and the Tank all internationals.

VS Wolves in the early 1980's. I remember the smell of the brewery as i made my way to the ground. I think we lost 2-1, however, it was a vision of one of our supporters with a broken leg using his crutch as a weapon that sticks in my head for some reason.
