Afternoon, all.

I haven`t said anything of late as I really haven`t had anything to contribute, but I thought I`d put on record the fact that I`m still listening.

I agree with you about Gerry Sears, Dev, and remember him well. I think he was in the same team as Albert Holmes, Dave Blakey (at the end of his career), Nobby Clark, Brian Frear and Charlie Rackstraw. I think Charlie went at about the same time as Meredith and I`ve a feeling they may have gone to the same club, but not sure. Was it Gillngham or Bounemouth, perhaps? Anyway, that was mid 60s - they`d certainly gone by the time Jimmy McGuigan`s team won the old Div 4 in 68-69 - and the last time I saw Charlie play was for Bradford City against us in about 69 or 70. Happy days - let`s hope there are a few more on the way.

Best wishes to all.

Thumb up

That's the timeline I'd imagined to SaltergateBorn. I too think Charlie Rackstraw went to Gillingham and I saw him play for Bradford City too!

Albert Holmes was much flashier with those giant thighs and that slide tackle, but Gerry Sears was classy.

My first pro' match was when I was seven so that makes it 1959, but I might have been eight before I went to Saltergate and started dreaming of taking my boots along and getting a game. Why does that never happen?
