Seemingly it was all the ref needed to not give the pen. Cant wait to see Hibs having to cope with pace running at them on sunday, i would imagine they will come and sit in and try to hit on the break, Patience will be the key for us and if we can get out of the traps quickly it should be a comfortable win.

My boy can do a click like that - but had never seen it tried on the pitch. He's very impressed.

If he gets past his man I don't care what tactic he uses.

If Messi had done it it would have been ok as he is the greatest so no shame etc, but when a new oung guy shows some tricks and initiative its showboating cheeky git...F -aff back from where you came from attitude comes out.... youve gotta laugh at our journo's and at the attitudes that showing skill is akin to ripping the pish.

Messi would be up against a highly paid professional though, not some part time player from a footballing backwater to be fair....and he would have pulled the trick off as well.  And i doubt the opponent would have been happy either,so not sure it's got anything to do wi being scottish.

First off - I don't think Messi would even have tried it - it's not his style to do tricks like that. He'll beat his man with close control and speed of movement rather than flamboyance like that. A better example would be Ronaldo. Or Neymar. Or Daffy, a guy that used to play in our team. He'd try that three or four times a game and pulled it off more often than not. Drove us all nuts though, as it never really achieved anything.

Secondly - I'm sure the defender was pissed off about it (even though he got the better of Oduwa on that occasion). The difference is the Sun ran a full back-page story on it when it merited nothing more than a mention on Soccer AM's 'Failed Showboating' reel.

If Messi had tried it, the defender's whining would have been completely ignored by the Sun.

Now, thanks to the disgusting over-reaction by the media, Oduwa is a marked man.

He's 19 years old for f*ck's sake.

i remember some spanish player nearly throttling neymar when he pulled something similar in la liga. I'm no disagreeing about the media but i'm just not sure it's fair to say that it's a "typical" scottish attitude to frown against flair players.

But if he tries it on our full back at the weekend he has my permission to clean him out.

You're right - it's not a typical Scottish attitude. It is however a typical Scottish media attitude to a flair player who happens to play for Rangers. A 19yo Hamilton Accies, ICT or even Hibs player trying the same would have garnered absolutely no response at all.

Hope so. Straight yellow card and a full-back under pressure for the rest of the game wouldn't be a bad thing for Rangers. I know I wouldn't like to be facing another Oduwa run if I'm on a yellow already.

Why not just hope your defender defends as well as the Alloa bloke did?
