I don't really care much about this game. We're almost certain to slip down the league in the short term at least. I'm only holding out hope for a gradual improvement in performances either under McDowall or someone new. Although McDowall has started the match with McCoist's team, he has at least shown a willingness to make subs to change things up. Hooking Black was an excellent start.

I thought you were all about the boardroom/finances situation, Fred? Aren't we supposed to be more concerned about them? We don't have a chance of winning the division and we don't have to finish 2nd to get into the playoff, so while I'd obviously rather we won every game this one just isn't that important on its own. If we won this and lost every other what good would that do? We've got a new manager in place and like any other it's going to take some time for him to find the team he wants. It's not unusual to see a manager in that situation give the existing regulars a shot to see if they can play how he wants before giving them the boot. We're also going to have to wait til a lot of our squad returns in January to see if and how McDowall wants to use the younger players.

I don't really see the correlation. I'll still be going to games at Ibrox when I can make it regardless of how the results are going. If you equate supporting your team as something you should only do when you're winning then that's your issue. And Hibs have been really good, all credit to them. They haven't got the results they wanted a lot of the time this season, but they've been the best footballing team I've seen in the division. They've battered us today and they're quite simply the better side. Hopefully we'll close that gap in the 2nd half of the season.

Good players made to play bad and obviously havent been motivated to play either
Need a proper management team with a long term vision not a cheap option or promoting from the already failed McCoist team
Hibs arent a bad team but lets be honest Rangers team should walk this division under a real manager not get thumped

Can't keep everyone happy. If we bring in a high profile manager we get slated for not 'living within our means' and still trying to be big spenders etc.

The main problems we have with the side at the moment (as I see it) are:

1) Zero confidence, partly as a consequence of the boycotters killing the atmosphere, partly as a consequence of choking in the big games either as individuals or as a team, and partly as a consequence of Ally's policy of playing his favourites week in week out regardless of form.
2) In the whole time he was in charge, McCoist never sorted out our defence. It's ranged from creaky to shambolic, particularly since we've been in the lower divisions. McDowall won't sort that out with the same players as far as I can see. Gasparotto might be worth a shot if we can bring him back in January, but I don't think anyone should expect him to come in and shore it up single-handedly.
3) Last summer, instead of signing fast, hungry players, Ally went for past-their-best, experienced players. There was a decent argument for doing what he did, but I think results have shown that it was probably the wrong thing. Especially if Boyd is more interested in scoring red cards than goals.
4) The midfield is not nearly dynamic enough. Too slow to track runners when defending and too lethargic going forward, married to a whole heap of poor decision making from those who have the ability to take men on. This is something McDowall can influence either by switching the personnel or coaching them differently. If he persists with Ally's midfield then he has to take the blame for the same mistakes.

Hibs were as good as we allowed them to be today. We stood off them, gave them all the time and space in the world and it's no shock that they took advantage. Why on earth wouldn't they? Hibs should add an extra 14 onto their attendance figures today.

The playing side of the club needs ripped up root and branch and a coaching team put in place that can gel these players into a competent side, starting with the very basics. There's so much wrong with the way we play football it's shambolic.

You could see things in the Hibs side that had obviously been coached, particularly movement on the wings. There's no reason we couldn't do the same except that we've just not been coached in that sense properly. At all, some would say. The other painful thing was that the star of the show for Hibs was Scott Allan, a player we could have signed and who could have made the perfect foil for Law in the midfield. Instead we spent our wage budget on Boyd and Miller (I'd have taken one or the other as we needed another striker but we didn't need both).
