I don't want to sound like I'm just being argumentative but I really don't buy this theory that ref's are getting worse. They've always been inconsistent and made what appear to be baffling decisions, I don't think there are any more now than there were ten or twenty years ago.

I went on a refereeing course about ten years ago and it opened my eyes to watching the game. The first thing they told us on the course was that we'd never watch the game in the same way again, and it's true. I still get frustrated about what appear to be obvious mistakes by ref's but I've never thought they were biased, just mistaken. Still frustrating and annoying though!

I'd like to defend Forestieri and the first incident does look like a body check but he definitely overdid his fall and I think that was his undoing. In fact, the ref could easily have given us the free kick and still booked Forestieri. The second yellow was just insensible but again having done something like that myself during my Sunday League playing days I know it does happen sometimes and no amount of warnings beforehand will stop it from happening. It's just one of those strange tricks the human brain plays on us from time to time!

The Thing is flopsy that i dont either think theyve got worse they are still stuck in the 80s is the f-ucking problem and they arnt getting any better !! and Fifa and Uefa will never change this !! why would they ? i mean a fair game that Maybe an England team could win something ? like xxxx !! its mexican politics here !! keep them stupid so the stupid dont ask questions and the stupid do what they are told !!

Rugby is the way to go !! you hardly ever here a rugby team say they were cheated from the competition like England have been in 82 86 94 98 2008 2010 and thats just the world cups !!

With improved technology & training methods, refereeing standards should be improving. In England, they are going the other way with the exception of a handful of top referees (Clattenberg, Oliver, Dean & Atkinson). The rest are all falling backwards due to poor management.

The standards in other countries is generally improving, apparently leaps & bounds in the USA.

Watch You Are the Ref with Keith Hackett & Mark Halsey each Tuesday & they go through the plusses & minuses of referees performances at the weekend - very interesting.

Clattenburg is the number one referee by a distance now in England and is generally acknowledged as the top referee in Europe, on a status with Howard Webb when at his best.

You only have to watch his decision making and how he explains decisions to players to see he is light years ahead of the rest & is the most improved referee in the PL.
