Bilic on Hegazi.
"It was certainly not my decision. Even on Saturday when we were doing the tactics shape, he was there. I had assurances he would stay. I'm very disappointed. He wanted to stay." #wba

Slav,Can you assure all the fans you staying ?
Didn't answer the question ...
Asked Slaven if he could assure fans he is staying. This was his answer: I'm only disappointed with Hegazi’s departure because I had been assured he was staying. I wanted him to stay, he wanted to stay. To lose him on Sunday - to find that out - made me really disappointed #wba

Well, it's not good, but we still have 5 centre-backs (some better than others, admittedly) and if it means we can strengthen another position in January then it could be worth it in the end.

It makes the deal even more criminal when the manager isn't even made aware of it. They least that could be done is to give him a call and explain the situation.
That said, I doubt he will walk over it. He always preferred Bartley over Hegazi until last week. So it would only be based on 'principal' if he did, but I doubt he would give up his wage.
The silver lining is that if he does go, we might be able to get a manager in who can motivate the players for 90 minutes. That said, Hegazi would've been part of the plans of any sane manager...

A strange thing about the Hegazi move is it's initially only a loan. With a view to a permanent transfer in June 2021.
So how the hell does that give Bilic any extra money to get a replacement in the next window. Beggars belief !!!

Wages saving alone will be over 2 mill. It was also known by Bilic that Hegazi could leave during the transfer window of which ours had shut but the Saudi Window hadn’t. It’s a good deal for Albion with a saving of nearly 10mill with fee and wages. All this for a player who Bilic only used 14 times last season. If we would have waited until the end of season that would have meant spending at least another 8 mill in wages and his transfer fee going down. Now I like Hegazi but for me the deal was to good to turn down in these trying times.

Wages saving £2 million then £8 million you confused me I'm afraid.
When we are in the PL to think a £70k a week wage is OTT is unrealistic. That's just an average wage. £4 million transfer fee was not good when you consider what we were quoted for PL experienced CB in the summer. They were all £10 million+
Well he's gone now so we have to move on. Problem is all clubs now know if they put in a good offer any of our players are for sale. And Bilic won't have a say in the outcome.
