In my opinion it should be the ref on the field that refers to VAR when he is not certain...NOT the other way round! And, yes, how the f..k was Mariner the VAR referee when he should not officiate at our games?

Still bloody good win whatever happened.

as has been said we won
but the F.A should be inquiring as to why Marriner was allowed to be the VAR official if he`s banned from being involved in any of our games kinda explains a few things as to why it was used so much last night didn`t work though did it Nice try Marriner You Villa Twat

I'm sure the use of VAR will improve over time (it could hardly be worse than last night) but the one thing that I really dislike about it is the fact that you can't properly celebrate a goal. Even more so if it's a set-piece goal, as the refs will always find some minor infringement. Celebrating goals is literally the best thing about being a football fan, and the pleasure of that is dampened by the knowledge that it will very likely be disallowed.

From a neutral point of view surely the fact that VAR got the decisions correct is the main thing?? It was a penalty for Liverpool, your goal was offside and the thrid goal was proved to be good, that is all we have been asking for for years isn’t it?
Also, I’ve seen it mentioned on here a couple of times about there being a foul in the build up to your disallowed goal, but I am sure that VAR is not allowed to look at things like that. Its only to ratify penalty decisions, check offsides and review actual goals.

But were all the correct decisions reached St Charles ? Barry was offside but was pushed twice in the back as the corner game in, Surly VAR should have picked that up , the goal disallowed and a penalty awarded ![]()

St Charles, that could mean teams are punished twice, once not getting the penalty for the foul on Barry in this case and again in having the goal disallowed. Surely VAR for the Barry penalty is the same as the VAR for their penalty. It's either a penalty first infringement negating the offside or its the attacking team that loses out.

But at the moment they only review what the referee isn’t sure about and if he didn’t see the push on Barry, which I assume he didn’t then he was only asking for it to be used to check if it was offside or not, which it was. Its not perfect but it will evolve and get better.
