Mr Neil proved last night has does have a Plan B as North End played a diamond system in midfield, after an initial 20 minutes of struggle, North End powered through the last twenty five minute of the first half with three goals which firmly put the game to bed by half time. We were also helped by the fact the home side lacked something important commonly known as a defence. As a Deepdale in the reverse fixture they played some good football going forward noted one pass by Mowatt which was of top quality reversing the play and putting us on the back foot, in fact Mowatt caused us an early alarm by putting in a shot which was well saved by Rudd who tipped it round the post for a corner.
After a bright opening period there was a passage of play were the ball went towards then heavens, head tennis ensued and every Barnsley throw in looked a foul through.
Step forward Fisher, down teh wing to the by line, ball across to Barky 1 up, Barky provided the ssist for the second, again down the right hand side, Harrop shot blocked rebounded to DJ who despite losing his balance scored with that least used foot his right. On the stroke of half time Barky took advantage of some abysmal defending advanced on goal, keeper half stopped it but the ball bounced up and towards the unguarded net and that was three.
Sinclair had chance to score just before half time went for power and blasted over the top. Game over.

The second half was a non event Barnsley had plenty of the ball rarely threatened and every cross that was put into the box was won by Bauer or Davies they didn't miss a thing all night. Could have had a fourth late on Harrop and Nugent combined well with Harrop side footing his effort the wrong side of the post did not matter though the points had been won ages earlier.

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber told BBC Sheffield:

"I think in the first half, many situations on and off the ball were not like a professional team. There were mistakes like an amateur player and this is not our standard.

"You must stand up and never give up and today, the body language in the first half when we gave away the goals, was not like a professional.

"This was a raven-black day. It's not enough to pick up points and also for the fan, when he pays a lot of money for the tickets, this is not enough.

"The only thing we can do now is say a big sorry to our fans. This is not the performance we can give normally at home."

Preston manager Alex Neil said:

"It was a ballsy way that we set up but we felt it was the best way to win the game. Our first real bit of quality play led to the first goal and we upped the tempo from there.

"That's seven points out of nine now. We took the goals well and we've got a clean sheet, so it's really pleasing.

"This is the best position we've been in during the three years I've been here and arguably the best position the club's been in for a decade, so what we should do is embrace it.

"If I had to single one player out tonight it would be Alan Browne - he was excellent, but it would be difficult to pick anybody out who didn't play well tonight. They were great."

You can feel the misery increase as this goes on
