Three different managers have failed to invest in the playing strength at a time when simple supporters like you and me have been thinking and saying we need to bring in players. I don't believe Danny Wilson, John Sheridan and Dean Saunders are all idiots. Why did Paul Cook head for the door when one team he'd built was about to lose some of its major players?

A few weeks ago you saw these players hammer Northampton (unbeaten since the thirteenth century) and you were raving about them. Scunny featured Conor Townsend - we could have had him but no one wanted him and now he's part of this team of unbeatable superstars ........ So we need to assess the playing strength realistically.

The club is where it is because that is the game it plays with its supporters and managers. Yesterday we had what - a young inexperienced keeper from Liverpool behind a back four in which two of the players may, or may not, even be defenders and another who ought to be at Turf Moor. So our only defender is a good footballer who is one of the slowest players in the division. And we were expecting a clean sheet?

In front of the defence we position a man chosen by our current manager who has been a huge failure, but always plays. That is certainly Danny's fault.

As we move forward we have a winger a lot of clubs want and a decent centre forward who will bring us hatred wherever we go. But what do we have with them - well there's Jay Come-Day-Go-Day and Gardner who seems to want to self-destruct in much the same way; what else, one of the many young fish Chelsea turned into rejects, young Dimaio, who may need time we currently don't have, Rai who has apparently gone into reverse, Dennis who was a worthwhile gamble but gamble was the operative word ........ and a very young centre forward who I think will make it but who got thrown in against the team at the top of the league ......? We're a bits and bobs team, all make-do-and-mend. We've a contract wasting on Ebanks-Blake who'll be back as soon as Shrewsbury appoint a manager, another on Angel who may be in geriatric care before he recovers and Jones whose prolonged absence has made my heart grow fonder.

The worst mistake Danny has made was not Liddle, it was playing Tommy Lee at Bradford last season. With struggling centre backs you can't afford a keeper problem. We didn't fix either or centre back problem our keeper and they are the foundation of of any team.

Steps:-

1. We have a mass of injuries, many received in training. Morgan was off his head as a player - I'd suggest that may be coming out on the training ground. Wave goodbye. Ritchie takes charge day-to-day.
2. Anderson and Raglan, who do they want to play for? If we don't feature in their futures we need centre backs in January.
3. Come January we also need a proper controlling central midfield player.
4. The club has to decide whether it wants to repeat the cycle of promotion and relegation every few years ..... because this doesn't happen accidentally ( we'd need Scully and Fox Mulder on the case!)
5. As we are almost certainly going down the time to prepare for it is now. We could waste months floundering or we could decide perhaps to develop the younger players and put the deadwood to where it has decided to be. If O'Shea or Gardner would like to commit themselves for 90 minutes, they have months of contract time to let us know.

IF we do sack Danny which is the way of all football, then we must ditch Morgan too and the only candidate for the main job is Ritchie ........ but we'll be giving him an almost impossible job, saving a club which kinda wants to go down.
