An uncaring Conservative party or a different Labour party with proper left wing policies that don't just benefit the rich.
And who says that Corbyn is unelectable anyway? The right wing media. Maybe true, but can you name one Labour politician who could lead the party to an election win? No, because even if Smith had won yesterday, he would not have had any chance of winning a General Election. The SNP have seen to that. They're the ones who have got us stuck with a generation of Tory governments.
We can't beat the Tories in England without a united United Kingdom.
What are the aims of the SNP? Are they UKIP in a kilt? Please explain, cos I don't know what it is you're actually wanting.
Good comments! Re your last para, isn't Tory politics, the presence of a current Tory govt and the divisive nature of Conservatism with it's predictable political ideologies, some of the factors why we are not united?? As for the SNP being compared to UKIP. Well UKIP tried to make inroads into the Scottish political scene during the last election but Farage and his cohorts failed because most Scottish voters have no time for the RW scaremongering tactics that they deployed in England. So why would we vote for the SNP? One thing to note is the SNP is not comparable to UKIP! The NLP's failure in Scotland is the SNP's gain and the reasons for Labour's collapse of it's block vote are - 1. Because of the political fallout from the post Blair and embarrassing Brown era 2. The lack of any kinda decent political leader to guide the party to some kinda stability 3. The contemptuous manner in which the NLP took Scottish Labour voters 'for granted' 4. The perceived collusion of the NLP 'joining hands' with the Tories to try and stop Scot Indy during the referendum of 2014 - never forgotten by thousands and thousands of disgusted Scottish NLP voters and other Scottish voters as well!! 5. The realisation that the SNP represented the best interests of the Scottish people - not perfect by the way but what UK political party is?? 6. The SNP leaders were still regarded very highly compared with all other political opponents - a different level of political opponent with a certain level of pragmatism attached to Scot gov policies and generally regarded to be 'doing a good job under difficult economic circumstances'.
The mandate of the SNP is to ultimately gain Scottish independence but, as the Scot First Minister has consistently uttered - they won't attempt to do that unless the 'mood' of the Scottish people significantly swings towards separatism due to one or other significant political event. Otherwise they'll work towards a 'devo max' model of governance and not the half-baked one that was foisted upon them roughly a year after the unionist/Tory/NLP triumphalism that was displayed in England after the 'no vote' prevailed against Scot indy in 2014!
The New Labour Party will not have any great political significance in Scotland any time soon and neither will UKIP!
