I must admit to being a little nervous pre match that Weeds might just burst our bubble but once we settled into our usual pattern of play (lots of the ball without hurting them up front) I felt they didnt have a game plan nor the quality and only an error, or being reduced to 10 men ( Mooys tackle?) might send us into a spin and as the game progressed was resigned to a point not being a bad outcome.
Defensively we were excellent for all 100 mins, Shindy outstanding & brave and Huddy not far behind him in all departments. I thought perhaps the 2 full backs were quietish and didnt or werent able to get forward enough to help out, was relieved to see Sacko subbed and Monk being boooed for the change as he was nippy, thankfully the rear portion of the pantomine horse, Woods, lead their line decidely less than average.
What a strike, sat low down amongst the chavsters didnt get a full appreciation of the hit but seen several clips of it since. For a chap who spent a week 1st class in Qantas flights fighting the jet lag..... the boy done good. I was almost trampled on by hordes of spotty coked up yoofs trying to get on the pitch to celebrate.
A big shout out for Jack Payne his energy was incredible, VLP too but the whole team's energy won us the game as it stopped them getting anything going, a 2nd would have been useful and we do need to create more overall, but in general I couldnt be happier.
The drive back down the M1 with my hanging kit stirred all kinds of gestures some non too friendly but its good to be smug now and then.
Looking forward now to Brighton in what might be a barmy summer evening on Tuesday, great stadium but missed the last 2 midweek games there so making an effort for this one, the team certainly deserve it.
